Dairy,
I'm kinda of disturbed about something. Yesterday we was informed that the church was having trouble meeting our operating cost. The gas bill seemed to be the biggest problem, we are apparently behind on that. The spokesperson for the finance committee explained all this and says we have 2 options. OPTION NUMBER ONE: Use money from our savings accounts.
OPTION NUMBER TWO: Members give more money each week.
It was then stated that option number two was the best option. I say that's a load of crap. Option number one is definitely better. Our church is made up of elderly people on fixed incomes, a lot of people who have lost jobs, had pay cuts, and hours worked cut. I imagine that a lot of these families have had to dip into their savings accounts, if they have any. I thought that was a very shallow, immature, and thoughtless solution that took very little prayer and effort to come up with. I have decided that this church will get my tithe but my offerings will go elsewhere. If families have to dip into their savings accounts to survive then I think the church should too.
I also think that if we have the money in savings then it is stupid to pay late fees and interest charges; that is very bad stewardship. I also feel strongly that as a church if we do not pay our bills on time when we can that it is a very poor witness.
Dairy, it was also stated that there is no room to cut back which is not entirely true. We have some paid positions that can be done by members on a rotation basis if people were willing to do the work.
But these are just my opinions and I'll get off my soap box now and dwell on more postive things.
Dairy, I dissed the church now I'll sing their praises. We are doing our nursing home ministry this tuesday and I had put an annoucement in last weeks bulletin for cakes and drinks and servers. But due to inclement weather(that means the parking lot was a sheet of ice) services were cancelled. So I was a little worried about getting everything that we need on such short notice but the good folks(mostly those who are on fixed incomes, and have taken pay cuts) have come through and we will have plenty of drinks, cake, and ice cream. We would have had plenty anyway but at least now the cost is spread out amongst about 6 or 7 people.
I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY CHURCH FAMILY AND LOVE THEM INSPITE OF THE FIRST PART OF MY ENTRY. I felt I need to make that clear, there are a lot of good godly folk there.
