I think a better idea would be to give each user the ability to block certain users and/or certain IP addresses from commenting in their diary. That way if someone leaves a nasty comment in a user’s diary, that user can block that person from ever commenting again. Or perhaps that user might be given…
The ‘performance tweak’ has had to be rolled back – I can’t get the other areas of the code to retro fit without spending considerable effort and that effort is probably better spent on getting the new version out the door – one day… As such, everything should be back to how it was yesterday…
And as you can see from the autochosen date, its past midnight here in the UK… I don’t yet know what caused the initial crash, and I may never know, sometimes software just goes belly up. But the initial data loss was caused by indexes being invalid and MySQL not alerting me to the fact…
To answer some of the comments left previously… No diaries were lost, it was the BACKUP that was missing a diary. Nothing has happened to the primary database… If we could afford to pay ourselves anything for running the site, we could consider employing other ‘intern DBAs’ and indeed, if that were the case, they…
