I restarted the database only to discover it had eaten itself, or more specifically its access permissions. For a while it wouldn’t come up at all, and then when it did, none of the scripts could connect because the access control lists were gone… These are now restored so everything should be working, but if…
As I promised, so far I have the following sites to suggest: www.angelfire.com was suggested by TimeTraveler, and Sys4 suggested Tripod (.com or .co.uk). I haven’t used either of these services so I don’t know how your experiences will be, but they are options. A word of warning though, I think Geocities are just the…
I’ve, rather interestingly, been receiving emails to [email protected] that claim to have come from [email protected]! Which leads me to the conclusion that the latest wonder worms from the minds of those intellectually challenged enough to have to resort to write VB Script email worms, are now faking the sender’s details to be a random address…
Its come to my attention that a number of people who have diaries here have been threatened by, perhaps one, perhaps more people, that their ’employers’ will be contacted. I’m not sure on what grounds these employers would be contacted, especially since the various people threatened are among the more sensible users of this system…
Incidentally, the BadTrans worm doesnt even require you to open the mail, it exploits a known security hole in Outlook Express to execute the attachment without you actually opening it. Nice one Microsoft. Another one no doubt you’ll blame lax sys-admins for? Anyway, anyone using Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express needs to go here and…
It is a sad day for DearDiary and many of our readers. We've been advised that Pragmatist, one of our long time diarists, has passed away in her sleep overnight. I've personally had interactions with Pragmatist through the support e-mail address and she was a lovely lady who will be missed by many. For those…
I appreciate your work. Thank you 🙂
Test comments now…
yes, i am comforted to know you’re working at it. thanks.
🙂
No problem, Steve, a little PHP downtime and sporadic site access is worth it in the short term if it means the site works better in the long term. We appreciate all your hard work!! =)
So all the login issues and stuff is related to that? I’m used to like full on down. Like access to nothing. The partial acces thing is all confusing me.
Oh well. Have fun debugging. 🙂
We will sit on the sidelines, cheering you on admiringly! Hope your work goes quickly and without too many frustrations.
Hugs,
Ani

ahem…just tested…actually, Steve, the internal server error is still present 🙁 it is only appears in old diaries with millions of entries and easily gets rid of by refreshing browser…personally I don’t mind doing it, I’d think many other won’t either. as long as it is a known bug with a known resolve…I wouldn’t worry much 😉

I’m not getting anymore of those, "Skeleton diary doesn’t exist" things anymore. I don’t have the skeleton diary… nor did I really care if it existed. Just wondered why login would be going there. lol
Hope you have fun with your bugs today. 🙂 Someday this will all be automated and all you’ll have to do is sit there and watch it work for you.
