Fairy Land Revisited
Sat Jul 02 2005

Glastonbury - small town in a remote part of Somerset -probably one of the most famous, mystical sites in the world. It has connections with King Arthur, Joseph, Ley Lines and Earth Energy lines around the world. As well as many pilgrims and visitors from around the world Glastonbury also has a large concentration of people with alternative beliefs.

There are the stories of Glastonbury as the mythical Isle of Avalon, with its links to King Arthur, his knights of the round table and their search for the Holy Grail. Arthur is said to have been brought to Avalon by boat, by the nine fairy sisters , the "Morgens", after his last great battle and to have died on the Island. Even the monks of the Abbey supported this legend claiming to have found in the Abbey grounds the grave of Arthur and his Queen Guinevere.

The Tor once been the site of a stronghold of King Arthur and guarded the entrance to Annwn (The Underworld). It is a long climb, even if a paved one. But from there, from the top the view is just breathtaking! There was somewhat almost mystical about the Tor itself and a stern Tower on the top of it. As we climbed up, I was expecting Mysterious Merlin to greet us at the entrance of The Tower.

On Top Of The World (opsss, sorry - of the Tor):

There is also a beautiful legend about the natural well at the foot of the Tor -The Chalice Well. It is thought to have been built by those of the Old Religion, the Druids, and that the water that gushes from it, reddish in colour and tasting of iron, has been claimed to have magical powers.

Actually, the water itself is "normal" colour. But she gives colour to everything she touches

The other no less wonderful place in Glastonbury - The Benedictine Abbey - traditionally the first Christian sanctuary in Great Britain

It is unimaginably ancient - it was mentioned in a books already in 1086. In 1184 there happened a fire and the Abbey was almost completely destroyed, but then rebuild in around 1213…When you walk among the ruins, you feel the History running through your fingers, like a sand-glass…There are so many legends to this place that it will be completely out of question to tell them all here. Instead, those who interested, might want to read here about the Myths of Avalon, The Holy Grail story and King Arthur’s life. See and feel for yourself what an amazing place it is.

We’ve been here before – first time we went there last year (and strangely enough, that happened on the…5th of July – exactly a year ago!) I left some notes in my old journal, I’d like to bring them forward again, as there is no point to say things you’ve said already:
…You walk into the town, first impression – just another pretty normal little town with its high street, and a church, and shops, with ordinary inhabitants…Except from the atmosphere there is very different. As if you really stepped down into other, parallel dimension, which is not really a parallel as such, but running so very close to ours, yet hardly noticeable drifts amazes you all the time…You real and the same time – something is not that real around you, only you can’t get, what. It felt differently there. It really did…People. Those who live there and those who just came to visit. There were different. I think we too – were – not entirely ourselves… Those whose feet stepped on this land, become somewhat a member of weird “community” of angels, fairies, gnomes and spirits…it was fun in some sense. And a great adventure. I liked the place. If I’d be asked to describe Glastonbury in few words, I will say - The Land of the Fairies.

We here in America don't really know what HISTORY is. We're much too new.

However, my daughter practices the religion of the Druids, and I'm directing her to your diary. At least this entry.

    I'm just speechless with awe.

    Shalom
