As I've discovered today, not all of the techies are capable of simple tasks that every teenager can do with their eyes closed…and I’m live example of this. The story began long time ago…8 years ago, to be precise. That was the time when I bought my first cell phone. And that is for how long I had it…yep. Old-fashioned, bigger then most of the modern generation would imagine, good old Phillips-C12. The one that doesn’t fit into a pocket and produces big bang if dropped…being an old model of mobile does have its advantages: nobody ever wish to steal it and it is too heavy to be lost or forgotten somewhere…oh, and it has such a pleasant ring tones (and in nowadays quite original, I’d say ;-) )
Anyway…my 8-years old cell phone happily served according to its technical description – it was a handy tool for making calls. Unsophisticated and without fancy features that can drive you mad, you know…just to call and send sms – that’s what telephones are for, aren’t they?…and for the last 8 years that I had it, I had absolutely no problem with it whatsoever…until now when my mobile network provider has finally decided that they are not going to support analogue network anymore…(yes, my mobile is THAT old) So they just went the easiest route: they send me a free replacement for my phone, with my old telephone number and old calling plan being unchanged…so for my “loyalty” I’ve now got a brand new handset while still enjoying old service (and I must admit, cheap service as well with the 8-years old rates)…I suppose, there are not many of us left out there, so the company considered it is cheaper to give us free phones then to keep supporting old network…
Anyway…this is history already, of course...but it explains how my whole evening has gone wasted…this new handset, I've got through the post, while being the simplest form of modern cell phone technology, has already claimed too much of my precious time today…I have no idea how the hell teenagers manage with those extra-super-fancy ones! I surely had hard time figuring out bare necessities. Like ringing tone sound and volume, settings for messaging, other useless functions I never imagine cell phone would ever need to have, etc…and then, of course, the joy of entering all my old phone book into the contact list (well, at least I’ve got hands on training in using new keypad!)
I’ve only configured basic settings, just to get it going really…I am sure I’ll have a life time of fun playing with the rest what it can offer…I will definitely want to change ring tune on it, that’s for sure - the voice of little fella is like a defective clone of Terminator...only worse…and god knows what else there is there still to be discovered in this little box of joy in the years to come…I only know for sure, that I do not want any more advanced model…thank you very much, but as long as this one rings and talks, I am happy with it…oh, and I’ve also discovered that my new phone is the one of that Girls Best Friend breed – it vibrates! :-p. Now I definitely got to think of a proper name for him and feel how I begin to like him already…;-)
