To Sum Up
Fri Mar 03 2006

Thanks god this week has ended. I mean – working week. The weekend does not really belong to the concept of a week, more as an independent entity itself. At least for me. For me it was a hard week. In one word: Work. In two words: F* Work. In more then two words: Work That Drives Me Crazy. On a side-notes (still on the Work topic though). I’ve already described the place I’ve got to put up with performing my taxable duties. And all those “cool” gadgets it’s equipped with (walls, fobs , Destroy Universe switches, etc ) Now we’ve got something new for our amusement. We’ve got a monitor for security camera binded to the wall right opposite of an entrance, so that when you walk into the building or indeed walk out, you’ve been framed. Guess what was our first reaction to this? Yep, we played for a while making funny faces for the camera. (we are so mature, aren’t we? ) Now, once the first excitement calmed down, the security folks who have to go through the records will only see some people, waving “Hi mom, I’m on telly!” to the camera each morning and each evening. Who knows, maybe this will make their day brighter (what a sad job to stare into security camera pictures all day! so in a way we are doing them a favour - free entertainment )…We’ve been also discussing the idea of offering balaclavas to the visitors on the outside of the building, by the beep-thingy that reads your fob and lets you in. You know, like in some surgeries they will offer you special footwear so that you won’t leave footprints.

Talking of the oddity of our office. You will never guess where our kitchen supplies are being stored. I didn’t. When I wanted to have a cup of coffee and there was no sugar left in a kitchen, I’ve asked our Admin team where I can get one. The reply sounded perfectly "logical" (although a bit on a weird side). They said: look in the file cabinet in admin office. The sugar is filed under “Personnel”…I scratched my head, but this it where it was filed, apparently. As was coffee and tea bags, all in one place, safely filed together.

Do I look as obsessed with my work? I probably am. I will let myself to whinge that one last time to sum up my week. And then I will let it go. I was thinking today about how impracticable this merge has been so far. All we managed to achieve was – to take a full time job of someone and split it between two others. But those two do have a full time job each already! And I’d say for myself it’s not a relaxing kind of job either…I’ve returned from yet another session of “handover” meeting, totally overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information I’ve got to know to be able to look after his servers and it felt like suffocating under the pressure of all of these things. Then I’ve wrote documentation that includes all things I’ve learned so far about this site. And suddenly the tasks in hand deflated to the point when I could see how I might be able to incorporate them into my current daily schedule. And that was this feeling of “relief” sort of, realization that even when it looked like absolutely impossible at first, at second glance it appeared possible to make this work. Next week I’m going to take a deep breath and start re-arranging my time. It’s almost the same like when you’ve got an alarm set to very early in the morning, when it rings, you’d press the snooze and stay in bed for a lil bit longer…and at that moment you so don’t want to go to work! Yet in few minutes, you’d get your sad ass from the bed and just start to live a day. The day will happen no matter whether you’re awaken or not. So every day you’ve got to force yourself out of the comfort of a bed and into the madness of a day. But somehow the day becomes all right in the end.

Seems you can always find time to add "one more thing." Then you begin to wonder "What did I do with all that spare time I used to have?"

    Eh.

    Shalom

Regarding the bulb issue, I did saw them burnt out several times in the past, but I admit that I'd never changed them, and of course, every time I was not prepared to this kind of 'surprise'. I'm not sure whether this one had been heavily used, I guess not, coz I only turn in on several hours a day.

Things happening since Thursday have proven that I was not over-superstitious, the superstition was not one at all. Back luck was following me all the time, I'm so frustrated!

Btw, thanks for your encouragement and advice!
