Server Move

I remember now why I try very hard to avoid moving servers...

Apologies for the down time. I received some distressing news regarding the previous server (notably the OS on which it was running was no longer being supported, and thus security updates and patches would not be coming out any longer) and was advised to upgrade immediately.

Unfortunately, upgrade is a misnomer. Upgrade in this case means order new server, move everything over and clean up the disaster afterwards.

I had it all figured out. It was going to be a quick flick of the switch and no-one would notice. Ha! Sure. Everyone noticed because it was down for a day again...

Sorry about that. It's mostly back up now. It's on a newer server, with more horsepower ( 3.5Ghz AMD 64 and 2G of RAM ) and being a newer OS some of the 'walking sticks' I'd put in place for the old one are no longer needed, so hopefully things should be good.

Who knows, it might have gotten rid of that annoying Internal Server Error problem.

But don't quote me on that.

Now.... There WILL be quirks. Its 2:30am for me and I'm a little tired so I am going to bed. DD is pretty much running but some parts of it are not. Friends system is definitely offline just now. There's probably others too. Mail for Plus accounts will NOT work just now. I shall fix all these things as soon as I can. Right now, my bed is calling though :)

PS: Given that I didn't get a notify for this entry, I suspect teh Notification system isn't working right now either...

    and the good thing about that prolonged downtime was.......i know i still love and miss DD when it's inaccessible, and the DD wizard is still around after all, hey! lol.

    Thank you. I didn't know you were going to move servers though. But thanks again. I hope everyone thanks you by buying memberships or making donations to keep this going.

    I've noticed trouble viewing some diarists' pictures that I could previously view, just to let you know.

    I'm not seeing pictures either, and the links to Hamipiks on the homepage don't seem to be working.

    There's an interesting delay effect happening with comments, too.
