Dear people,
Especially the long term people who've been here for years...
It would seem that I have communicated badly, for which I apologise. There is no compulsory migration to the new site. You can stay here on what I now call the 'legacy' site indefinitely. At some point this site might go read only - but that really only depends on whether anyone is still using this site for writing at. If everyone's moved, this site will go read only. It will NOT be deleted. Not now, not ever. No diary entries will be lost.
Oddly enough Rose and I were only talking about succession planning for DearDiary.Net in case I cark it and who would take over if that happens. We're trying to square that away at the moment, and I only tell you this because I want you to understand just how important it is to us that you realise your diary is not going to be deleted or become unuseable.
If you want the real reason it's not going anywhere - and without wanting to sound crazy - it's because this site does not exist for me or Rose. It exists for God. I've wanted to quit it many times, and He's told me that's not an option. So unless I feel like being disobedient to God (and trust me, I don't) - the site is here to stay. Too many people have told me how this site has helped them heal things from their pasts and forge new friendships for the future to have it deleted on a whim.
So, please, especially the long time people who understand where I'm coming from, AKA the 'old' internet generation who were here before 'blog' was a real word, please try to understand that change is inevitable, but change does not mean deletion of your diaries or hard work. This isn't a big corporation running this, it's two people who have a reason other than financial to keep it going... (lol, if it was financial it would've ceased in 2002!)
Stop worrying. Your diaries are safe. Your entries are safe. Your comments are safe.
I hope that helps :-)
Please do get in touch if you have worries about the site. Leave comments, e-mail me, facebook me, twitter me if you like. There's so many ways to get in touch, don't sit on your fears about the site, let's talk!
