As I mentioned a while back, I've been working on a new e-mail system which will streamline how e-mail delivery is performed from DD going forward. The long and short of it is that in this day and age, people expect nicely formatted e-mails with pretty colours and buttons to click. Well, some do, I don't mind the old school text type of e-mails. But I'm a fuddy duddy.
Anyway - those fancy kinds of e-mails are a pain in the butt to code because e-mail clients are awful HTML renderers. If you cast your mind back to the early 2000's DearDiary, that's the kind of code that e-mail clients still use today. None of this fancy stuff! And it makes it really hard if I want to design a new e-mail to, for example remind people that they created an account but never actually used it.
So the new service (which will be aimed at developers, not users) will streamline the design of said e-mails and allow me to send them using an API that I've designed which DearDiary.Net will soon be upgraded to.
The new system won't be pretty yet, but it should work 😀 I might, if it ends up being popular, create a development diary for it. You'll soon know if I do!
This is a long winded way of saying I am getting very close to be able to hopefully reinstate e-mail delivery for those of you on Microsoft services such as Outlook.com, MSN.com or Hotmail.com (among others). Hopefully tomorrow evening will see the new system deployed and DearDiary.Net updated.
