Today we took a drive (130 miles) to see my brother and his wife in their new place. It was mostly sunny here today and we had a nice drive up in the hills.
I was struck by the green of those hills especially in the middle of winter.
I was struck by the green of those hills especially in the middle of winter.
Most of the grasses where we are right now are brown and dried up, but up there the green was like a mossy carpet under the bare oak trees. The color was so comforting, like a promise that winter WILL end and the warmth will return and things will awaken and begin to grow again.
I could not get enough of drinking that color in. It bathed my winter weary psyche with soothing balm. It makes me want to plant some seeds in the raised beds in my back yard. I may do just that tomorrow, or if not, I will sprout a few indoors and transplant them outside soon. An act of faith, an exersize in hope.
Let the greening begin.
