Surreal War
Fri Feb 14 2003

It is with a certain surreal unease that we await the beginning of the war.
It seems so far removed from us. How can someone so far away hate us so much? How can a religious man during a “holy” celebration call for the death of “enemies” that wish him no ill will? I guess having the audacity to think differently about God and how to worship Him, in this man’s mind, gives them the right to kill us wherever they find us. What madness is this?

The idea of getting ready for a terrorist attack when we have no idea where, when, or how they will try to hurt us is also ludicrous. I cannot put my faith in plastic and duct tape at a time like this. I think I will put my life in the hands of God.

It runs through my mind to go to the store and gather up some non perishables and bottled water. But since I don’t know what the threat really is, how can I prepare for it ?

I want to say that things are unique this time, and in some ways they are.
But even in the second world war there were plenty of people who did not want to get involved in wars in far flung countries. This is all too familiar.
But has September 11th dissolved into the mists of time so quickly? It could happen again, God forbid, today. And if not today, it will happen tomorrow. Unless somehow, we demonstrate that there will be consequences to all terrorist acts.

It is so easy to be a terrorist. A sack of money, a phony passport, a truck full of fertilizer. Wow, it takes a real evil genius to kill free people in a free society huh ? Ptu ptu… on them.

Just for the record, in a slight side line, I do not believe that Osama Bin Laden is alive. Time will tell if I am right or wrong. But right now, I am not convinced by their smuggled tapes with garbled messages, those ….. satanic verses from the desert. They sound like messages from a ghost.

You should tremble in fear, cave dwellers, the peace loving giant has been roused from his place.

I remember WWII. I said many a good-bye, and some rest in peace. I don't want to go thru that again.

I don't believe we would be that close to war if Emperor Dubya didn't push so hard for it. He wants it, we're gonna have it.

    God help us all.
