On The Brink
Tue Mar 18 2003

We are expecting President Bush to announce war very soon. To those of you who wish it otherwise, I ask you to reconsider. More and more evidence is coming to light that Iraq had an influence in 9-11. I am amazed at how quickly some have forgotten the horrors of that day. On that day, no one had threatened our people, or voted in the UN over resolution after resolution for us to act in some way. They came without warning because of their mindless hatred. And their cowardice, for make no mistake, they were cowards.

Saddam has clear cut involvement in paying money to Palestinian suicide bomber’s families. He HAS WMD, do not kid yourself. He invaded Kuwait and then set the oil wells on fire causing ecological damage unheard of. He fired missiles at Israel. Thank God he did not have bigger ones at the time. He DOES have them now. He killed 100,00 Kurds with poison gas. He has terrorized Iraqis and had thousands murdered, raped and tortured. The man is evil, a threat to his own people and others in the world. Not only Americans.

If you seriously think in your wildest dreams that either he will leave other countries alone or that you could make “peace” with this man, I beg you to think again. There is a verse in Jeremiah that says, “they say peace, peace, when there is no peace.” Peace is when those at war lay down their swords. Saddam would run Hans Blix all around Iraq for another 10 years before he would do such a thing.

If we would have begun to stop Hitler in 1938 instead of 1941 just think how many lives would have been saved ! We have that chance this time. I cannot sit here and pretend there won’t be a price to pay in human lives. But listen my friends, people are dying in Iraq right now under the hand of their dictator, what about those lives? There are times when one has to stand up and say, Enough! I am proud that I live in a country that has the moral courage to fight evil, and at great personal cost. We fight because it is the right thing to do. We did it for the French once, they seem to have forgotten all about it. How convenient for them.

It must also be taken into consideration that there are many Iraqis that want to be freed from Saddam’s tyranny. I find it amazing how people who talk about being compassionate have so little of it for the oppressed in Iraq. Oh, it’s so warm and fuzzy to demonstrate for Peace. The only thing is I don’t think these people understand who they are wanting to make peace with. He executes people right and left over just the suspicions of his own paranoid mind that they are plotting against him. He watches video tapes of torture in his leisure time. Put the onus for cessation of violence on the proper person. The Butcher of Baghdad.

No one relishes war. But even in the bible it says, “…to every thing, there is a season. A time of peace and a time of war.” And almost always, the very thing that comes before “peace” is war.

I pray it is short, swift, and sure. And when all is said and done that the people of Iraq will breathe the precious and costly air of freedom.

God Bless America, and all who stand with her on this day.

A well written and powerful entry. I agree wholeheartedly. War is always a last option, but I'm afraid we've worn out all the other options.

What you have said is true. My big objection is the way Bush has approached the whole thing. He has alienated our allies with his "my way or the highway" attitude. The way he gives orders as if he were the Emperor of the World.

Now, we are a powerful and rich nation, but we are going to lose power and wealth, and that means people as well as money, if he does a unilateral attack on Iraq, which he has said he would. The man is as much a megalomaniac as Saddam is.

Yes, we're going to war against an evil, evil person. He and his whole regime need to be eliminated, obliterated. But I just wish we had the backing of the UN and our allies.

Do you realize that this will be the first time in American history, we WE have declared war first?

    Shalom

You argue well your point, but your reasoning is flawed. France has not forgotten what happened in their country, when many countries rallied at their sides to vanquish Hitlers forces. The US alone did not win that war, and they were the last country to join the Allied forces. Perhaps, having experienced a war upon their own soil, the French are less inclined to impose such terror upon another country, especially one which already suffers US led bombing attacks. Did you know that Iraq DOES NOT POSSESS the type of weapon which could reach the US if it were fired from Iraq?
And if the motivation to go to war is to save all the innocent people who are being persecuted (very unlikely), the US needs to prepare to attack itself. The US is responsible for many more deaths, and much more suffering than Hussein's regime. Think about what you're saying.
    Shalom
