It’s a nice walk till the very end. Then the trail becomes impossibly steep. Might as well go on all fours in places. But you just have to put up with it if you want to see the falls.
The falls is most impressive in the winter when the creek has lots of water flowing, but the steep trail is most treacherous then too. At other times of the year it’s not THAT awesome, it’s a small creek after all. But it’s worth the walk.
If you are stubborn enough you can keep hiking up above the falls. There’s a narrow place where the creek runs next to a really large rock on the left with a natural shelf in it big enough to sleep on if you can get across the water, depends on the time of year.
I took a dunk in a pool just above the narrow place once. It was a hot August day, but that water was like ice, I’ll tell you what. But I am the ice water Queen. I went for a short swim one time in South Fork Lake in April when there were still ice bergs floating over on the shady side.
I must have been crazy. I was crazy. Mountain girl crazy. Must’a had Spring fever or something.
Ah, take a deep breath. The air is good for your cold weather cobwebbed brain. And if you really want to wake up from your winter hibernation, take a dip. Any mountain stream or lake will do :-)
