The Matrix Reloaded
Mon May 19 2003

Just went to see The Matrix: Reloaded.

The first phrase that comes to mind is from the first movie…

“Free your mind.”

We loved it. But if you are not of a philosophical bent, you may be annoyed by the story development parts. But the action scenes should mollify you, as they are unbelievable…. Amazing. Astonishing. Beautiful even.

I enjoyed the exploration of the question of what reality is, and the fact that you most likely will fall on one side or the other of the divide between the two major views. (I am not saying WHAT views… see the movie.) But it is pretty cerebral, and this is what I like about it.

Now, this does not mean that all this mental activity answers enough of the questions . . . because there are plenty. And I agree with another DD member about the “celebrations” in Zion. They left something out, something more than just physicality needs to be in place for people to be willing to risk their lives. (Ah, the nihilists are squirming….) We ALL look for something larger than ourselves, it’s what humans DO. I am curious to see how they are going to play this out in the next movie.

Is it worth seeing? Absoflogginlutley ! As Smee* would say. You might even have an apostrophe, I mean an epiphany or two along the way.
This movie is not just eye candy, it makes you think, and question some things about human existence.

Is it perfect? Nope. There are gaps in some “whys” of certain things going on. And I would have liked a few minutes less of the car chase. But there is no way to please everyone with a film. It’s never been done.

And frankly, I am pretty sure that is the way it’s meant to be….

But then again, it’s only a movie….. right ?

I've read reviews of The Matrix, and now your review. Sounds interesting, but I don't like going to movies in movie houses. Rather wait for the tape if and when it comes out.
