I put on a lab coat and gloves, which seems like a promotion -- when in fact I'm cleaning out drawers and cabinets filled with exotic and obscure testing equipment and supplies. I fought the temptation to throw the whole lot out and start over fresh. My favorite part of the day was pouring out three cases of orange flavored glucose tolerance drink that had reached its expiration date. "Fizzy Lifting Drink" (Willy Wonka) is exactly what it was. The stuff was loaded with sugar. It would have sent a whole kindergarten class straight up the walls with one or two sips.
I was trying to deal gracefully with my pro/de-motion with humor. So I started singing, Cinderella ,Cinderella, night and day it's Cinderella - wash the dishes, do the mopping -- she goes around in circles till she's very very dizzy. . . Well J. and B. who were working nearby heard me singing, cracked up laughing.
But to tell the truth, I rather enjoyed it. It is straightforward work. Start with a dirty messy disorganized drawer, finish with a clean sorted out and organized one, filling up waste baskets in the process. There's only one problem, this is exactly what I want to do at home.
I've done an honest day's work, and now I'm tired. Too bad I don't have any energy left over to clean out my own drawers and cupboards. But they will wait for me I'm sure.
P. S. Unfortunately in all my cleaning out and throwing away and scrubbing and organizing I did not find ONE glass slipper. Don't you hate it when that happens?
