Soup's On!
Wed Nov 05 2003

Quiet day. Little writing, little shopping, little tinkering, few errands, make a pot of vegetable soup, and you’ve finished out the day!

I just posted my word count on NaNoWriMo.

7,111 words so far.

I even experimented with dictating two pages of the next part of the story using Dragon Naturally Speaking just to see what that was like. I started off pretty slow but got into it after a bit and it seemed less stilted. It’s one thing to read what you have written by hand into Dragon, and just wing it, composing on the fly. I THINK it could be a useful tool. I just need to get used to it. There is a certain rhythm you get into while writing. Sometime you can’t write fast enough, but other times while you are writing out one thought it gives you time to gestate the next one. Dictation is a whole ‘nother horse of a whole ‘nother color. I am sure I will be able to test it out some more in the coming days and make a real determination if it would work for me. The thing is there are massive amounts of editing to do when you use dragon. And I am not sure if it is worth it in the long run. We shall see. Although I think it is doing a better job, the longer I use it which would make sense.

Anyway that’s my news for the day.

Back to the jury selection process tomorrow. At least this time we don’t have to show up until 9 AM. That 8 in the morning thing was a bit much I thought. AND no matter what happens, tomorrow I get 15 dollars plus mileage just for showing up!

(I’ll try not to spend it all in one place.)

Fifteen whole entire dollars? Why, in these parts the going rate is $10 plus lunch. Does that even out or what?

I need to talk to you about that Dragon thing. I don't understand the method.

    Have fun tomorrow.

Sometimes I compose talks for church out loud in my car while I'm driving...I think there are times that composing out loud could work. My husband has dragon speak. I never even calibrated it to my voice. I type like 80 words a minute and I had no patience for the errors it made.
