I get about a dozen spam emails a day. I have been deleting them without looking closely at them until today. I noticed that they have had to make up hundreds of fictional names for them and some of them are pretty amusing. I have decided to start keeping a list of them to use for names of characters in my writing. Here is my short list from this morning:
Nigel Esparsa
Billie Greer
Hester Crandall
Chester Blanchard
(I wonder if Hester and Chester are related?)
In any case I am delighted to be getting something useful from these bozos. It makes me feel better.
In other news, I finally got the recipe for "Mosbolletjies" to work thanks to a suggestion from an internet friend to try starting with organic raisins.
It worked. My raisins rose to the top of the jar of warm water and I made the sweet buns this morning. They were quite tasty and unusual. Give it a try if you are feeling adventurous in the baking department. If you type in Mosbolletjies into Google, you can find a recipe. But use Organic raisins, as my friend told me, commercial ones have been treated with sulfur and also coated with mineral oil and it is hard for the yeasts to survive this process.
If anyone ever finds out how you pronounce that word, I would be so happy to be able to verbalize it! Any attempts I have made so far sound pornographic, so I just call them "Raisin Buns".
Hub Man mentioned more than once they seemed like they were taking a lot of fussing. :-) And frankly, he's right. But I must say, I am happy to know, that in a pinch, I could make a raised dough in the absence of commercial yeast. This is a very satisfying and earthy bit of knowledge that I am glad I now have in my back pocket, should I need it one day.
My husband has just finished reading the Horatio Hornblower books and amended his opinion of the buns later by saying that they might be a nice treat at sea instead of hard tack!
(High praise indeed from my crusty man's man eh?)
Oh, Creed is telling me I have email. Look, more spam!
I now have,
Eunice Golden
and
Hebert Manning
to add to my list! Cool!
