Dream Job (Get Her Medication. Now)
Wed Jun 16 2004

The cursor blinks... here on the monitor, waiting for something profound to be written. He'll grow old and lose his tiny binary mind before I will be witty today.

It's hot.

Quite unpleasant outdoors.

When I look out the window, the garden beckons. The flowers are blooming like a carnival. But the heat . . . well, the heat trumps all my plans to sit in the swing and contemplate the remaining ripening blackberries, and plan the perfect dish for their consumption. Or watch the red dragonfly who has chosen a certain gladiolus for his throne.

Around here, it's not the winter that keeps one indoors. It's the summer.

Although to be sure, there are benefits. I found the first turning tomato. It's half orange and half green. I'll have to keep an eye on it now. Hmmm, drizzled with olive oil, sprinkled with fresh basil and parmesan, and broiled. What do you think?

I went to my job interview. I think it went well. It's a small office, clean and bright, organized and simple. The hours would be 8 AM to 1 PM. And it's only 20 minutes from home on a country road. She said she had other interviews to do this week and would let everyone know one way or another by Friday or Monday at the latest. She seemed a pleasant woman, I liked her well enough. It's 5 days a week though, which is a little intimidating to me. I was hoping for a 3 day a week gig.

Time will tell. In the meantime, I will keep looking for something else. Just in case.

Let's see. Here's a likely prospect to inquire about. Shall I send my resume' ?

WANTED:

Person of exceptional literary abilities, willing to look over manuscripts of budding novelists. Extensive knowledge of grammar and spelling not necessary. Keen eye for continuity, flow and readability however is what we are looking for. Work area will be a large library with fireplace and floor to ceiling windows facing north. All editing will be done by hand, with the perfect pen (we have located it). There are no computers in our establishment. High tea will be served at 3:30 so you will go home well fed and rested. A housekeeper will be provided for you, so that you won't have to fret about the condition of your home while you are at work. James our driver, will arrive at 9:00 AM to collect you. The work day ends at 4. ALL conceivable holidays will be observed, with full pay. There will be a Christmas bonus that will take your breath away. And massages will be given once a week on the day of your choice. One hour a day will be set aside for you to work on your own novel, and we will publish it for you when it is finished. The only thing is, you have to bring your own lunch. We hope this will not inconvenience you in any way. Apply within.

(Somebody slap her.....)

(HARD.)

Hey, this is MY fantasy. I'll fashion it any way I like!

They say the first step in realizing your dream job is to fully imagine it. Time for you to start getting busy in the search, as you've described it perfectly! :-)

You've no idea how envious I am of your blackberries. We don't get them ripened up around here until the end of July at the earliest. August is blackberry month normally. My favorite berry, and I've still got more than a MONTH to wait!!! WAHHHHHHHHH!

I'd like to send my résumé for that job, too, if you don't mind, except I can do that spelling and grammar stuff!

And, boy, the climate just can't make you happy, can it, Yetz? In February and March you kvetched about the cold and the grey and the rain, and now you're kvetching about the sun and the heat! :) Your tomato sounds yummy, though!

Blackberries!!! I just love a warm blackberry cobbler. They grow wild around here so I go apickin' every year but I have never had any luck growing them. The soil in my former yard had very low acidity and made it hard for me to grow berries, azalea, hydrangea, etc.
