Flea Market Finds
Mon Sep 13 2004

We toodled over to the GIGANTIC flea market today.

I was on the lookout for several odds and ends.

I have never seen such a crowd of sellers as there were today.

Everyone has a parking space big enough for their car or truck and an added space just about the same size to lay out their stuff. And let me tell you. They had stuff...

It was warm and breezy and I should have worn my tennis shoes, but instead I had worn my Birkenstocks. I can't really move out with any speed in them, but they are always comfortable. So I did the best I could to keep up with Mr. Longer Legs Than Me. :-)

I did find two things on my list.

A smallish square table to sit by my reading chair in here in my work room. We found a nice natural finish sturdy pine one for twenty dollars. I am very happy with it. The thing is strong enough to sit on if you were so inclined.

And I found an insulated holder with a shoulder strap for my water bottle. I have been looking high and low all summer for one of those things. That was six dollars, which I thought was a tad high, but it was brand new and made well, so I got it.

We saw all kinds of ancient merchandize. Old bicycles, rusted wagons, old books, rusty tools etc. That was the interesting stuff.

But there are also lots of booths that are there all the time that had things like plastic wrap and pot scrubbers and plastic tablecloths. Of the cheapest imaginable materials. But it's the odd things like a Cuisinart food processor that still had that little plastic sleeve that usually has the store's price information slipped into it. The thing looked like it had been stolen to me.
Makes you wonder.

The worst bargain of the day was the bottle of pink lemonade we paid 2.50 for.
I was VERY thirsty...

But not to worry. Now that I have my portable insulated water bottle carrier, I won't be snookered into buying THAT lemonade again!

Power to the shoppers!

Sounds like fun. I have not been to a good flea market in years. They used to hold one at the fairgrounds once in a while, but if they are still holding them it is the best kept mystery in the county.

I used to have a mesh holder with a shoulder strap for my water bottle, but I have not been able to find it. It did not keep things cold, but it was a handy little thing anyway. An insulated one sounds great.

I've never been to a flea market. I suppose I should give it a try. Might find something I didn't know I wanted.

Sounds like you did all right out of the trip. You always have to pay too much for food and drink at these things. ;-)

The fleamarket sounds cool I love prowling about those things searching for that elusive bargain. From the sounds of it it's what we'd call a car boot sale.

Glad you found a good table out of it though,
    Hugs

It's the junk that usually attracts me to flea markets. Yeah, the bargain finds are nice, but mostly I love that feeling of incredulity that creeps over me when I come across the stands with burnt out light bulbs or bottle caps or empty match book covers. Yeah, I know that stuff is collectible, but WHO collects it?
