What Color Are YOUR Socks?
Sun Oct 24 2004

Every year I make a bet with my dad on the World Series.

This year, he chose the St. Louis Cardinals and I have the Boston Red Sox.

The bet is for the enormous sum of five dollars.

They play for the best of seven games and the Red Sox just won tonight. The score was 11 to 9. Rather high for a World Series game. Looks more like a Little League score to me!

Dad said he thought the Red Soxs players looked.... scruffy.

I saw long hair, dreadlocks and cornrows.

I think they look..... colorful. :-)

The Red Sox have not won a World Series since 1946 I think it is. Seems like it's their turn. But it ain't over till the last ball is pitched, so we shall see.

Go Red Sox!

If you must know my socks are White!
Scruffy is about right, In my hard working years I had a few meetings in Boston and they were Very Proper to point of stiff upper lip . One could not have dinner or a nite cap in the Bar without a TIE. Something has changed in the mean time.
Yoga said it IT ain't over till the fat lady sings.

The Braves are out, I haven't watched. Just how scruffy is scruffy? ;o)

ryq: I took a survey from a couple of my close crochet friends who actually have access to "real" yarn stores. I only wish I did. Our general opinion isn't what you want to hear. A real yarn store probably won't have the kind of yarn you are looking for to make your purse. Lots of gorgeous silks and mohair and things that are making my eyes roll back into my head from swooning as I think of them. Possibly not a "hard surface" yarn or thread though. We three do think that a good bet would be Omega Nylon thread, which I cannot find a website for. Here is an eBay store - http://stores.ebay.com/Omega-Imports . I see it all the time when I go to Hobby Lobby, great colors and plenty to choose from. Most crocheted purses you see in stores are made of something similar. DEFINITELY ask for suggestions from the store you are going to visit, they'll know better what kinds of things you might be able to use from what they carry. Most can order something if they make a suggestion but don't have it on hand. Also, please be sure to give me a full report of the yarn when you come back. Did I mention I don't have a real yarn store in my area? At least I can live vicariously through you.

Actually, I am no baseball fan, but I was pleased to hear the Socks had finally made history and will play in the World Series. My daughter researched Babe Ruth for her Modern American history assignment and that's why my ears pricked up at the news the other night. To think they've broken the curse. Good on 'em. ;-)
