Stir Your Soap!
Tue Nov 16 2004

Today I have been making soap.

It's turned into an all day project.

I do it the old fashioned way, with lye and fats. Coconut oil, olive oil and beef fat. Not that melted glycerine stuff.

I have been stirring and stirring and it's finally starting to look like it's ready. I'm playing hookie from stirring right now, as I just needed a break. I've been at it for an hour and a half. . .

But it's worth it. If the soap turns out well, we will have enough to last for at least two years or more. I'm scenting it with lily of the valley and lavender oils, but I have to wait until just before I pour it in the box to harden overnight.

If it's a success, I will take some pictures tomorrow. In the meantime, here is a picture of a little purse I made. I have already decided to change the ribbon handle for something else. (Typical)

Now I really better go stir my soap some more. Though I'm getting kind of dizzy from it.... sigh.

how beautiful you are making scented soap and what a beautiful purse everything you do seems so profound to me is it the way you do it the way you write it or both probably both ha ha

I reread yesterdays post wow it sounds like you and your husband have been through a lot together when you said that everything changes except gravity I thought of the french word grave that means serious and I wondered if you meant the serious challenge of life

hey mon amie how about gravity on the moon just taking a moment to flirt with the brighter side of life

have a beautiful day mon amie

The little purse turned out cute; I love the flower. You could crochet a little strap out of the same yarn. I saw a little purse at a craft bazaar that was done that way. The strap was about three quarters of an inch wide and had been worked back and forth in single crochet until it was the proper length.

BTW: Are you getting notifies? What few I am getting are coming in a day late. I did not get one at all for this entry. I just popped over to see if I was missing any and sure enough was.

My grandmother used to make soap, but she didn't scent it with lavender or lily of the valley. It was just plain yellow lye soap.

But she had the whitest laundry in the whole neighborhood.
