Red Blood Cells Anyone?
Fri May 13 2005

So my doctor tells me I am anemic.

This is mildly distressing.

So like any good anal retentive, bookish sort of person, I look it up in the dictionary.

Here's what I found:

ANEMIC: ane·mic Pronunciation: &-'nE-mikFunction: adjective1 : relating to or affected with anemia2 a : lacking force, vitality, or spirit b : lacking interest or savor : INSIPID c : lacking in substance or quantity

So my doctor thinks I am insipid. I lack force and vitality. I have no spirit. I am not even getting good returns on my investments. How rude!

Oh, you point out, this is the description of the adjective anemic, not the condition itself.

Sure, sure. Try to make me feel better. Don't' confuse me with facts. I have an anemic mind, lacking interest or savor.

What I feel like is Marvin in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

No wonder I have been feeling rather "off" lately.

(You are going to try to excuse the last two year's worth of "offness" on THIS?)

Well, perhaps it has SOMETHING to do with it.

(Thinly veiled attempt to blame your insipidity on biology. Weak defense. I'm not buying it.)

You wouldn't.

Sigh.

So I'm taking iron pills, and plan to eat more meat. Hauled myself over to the store and loaded up a grocery sack full of it. We will not discuss the price of kosher meats. Nope, it is not a topic of discussion today. Not on the agenda. I will not be making a statement about it. Don't bring it up. . . .

Okay, so it cost me 55 dollars for that one bag of stuff. Nope, I'm not talking about it. That's it. That is all I have to say on the subject. . . . Yep, there's an end to it . . . .

(What an insipid level of commitment to keep quiet about it. An anemic attempt at humor also. Disgusting actually.)

You are getting on my lackluster nerves there, ( ). If I were you, I would clam up.
By the way, clams are an excellent source of iron. But they are not kosher. Besides, they look like a really, really weird thing to eat. Who wants to eat a seawater filter anyway?

Perhaps some words of wisdom from Rabbi Nachman of Breslov would cheer us up.

Ah look, how timely, this is the next quote from my little book:

"Work on having only positive thoughts.
It will do wonders for your mind."

Well, there you have it. The final word on the subject.

The bloodwork from my last vacation in the hospital indicates that I, too, am anemic. Will be seeing my doc on Monday to discuss the issue.

But I will NOT be adding meat to my diet. I'll have to find other iron sources.

Anemic mind? No way!! The blood may be lacking, but the mind is working very well. There may be other deficiencies, but they're not in the mind.

    Shalom

DOn't forget to eat your spinach, dear girl. Also, milk is an iron inhibitor so don't drink it with any food that is iron rich. The citrus fruits are perfect for eating and/or drinking with the iron rich foods.

    Good luck to you!

You probably didn't get any kosher pork chops, eh?

Have a nice big spinach salad with your kosher meats.

    hi cutie pie mon amie
I see you are still the epitome of cuteness
calm down your doctor wasnt making any psychological references as if you did not know you are just playing with words cutie now stop that

ofcourse I have something more to say about this I always do actually I think your doctor chose his words well when I went to the doctor about 10 years ago well I have been back since he said I was anemic or else quietly bleeding somewhere hee hee naturally I chose the former and this is why I am still alive to type this hee hee

I looked up the word optimism the other day the etymology that is in reference to the rabbi of Breslov's quote anyway the word optimism has a latin derivative that means power I thought that was so cool

maybe there are different degrees of being anemic because you are highspirited and enthusiastic

    love and light
    kedar the lackadaisical libra

I wish you a blue sky mind evergreen thoughts and a soulsun that shines peace on your world
