Linkfest On A Journal Blog
Sun Aug 28 2005

While pursuing one of my favorite political blogs the other day,
Little Green Footballs I ended up following a cyberabbit trail (wherein I know where I started and where I ended up, but not how I got there) to this site: Blog Glossary
Where I found a very amusing list of blogging world terms that you might enjoy taking a look at.

Therein I found out what we here at Dear Diary are doing. It's called Journal Blogging. Here's the official (according to Samizdata) definition:

Journal Blog-
noun. A personal diary-like blog. Personal journal blogs are by far the most common type of blog. Most have extremely small daily readerships (albeit sometimes very dependble). Also: Diary blog
Journal blogs form one of the three primary distinct (and largely separate) cultural groups within the blogging world, the other two being Tech blogs and Pundit blogs.
Also see: Kittyblogger

Unfortunately we are also catagorized in the kittyblogger group which is maybe not so flattering:

Kittyblogger-
noun. Technically someone who uses their blog to write about their cats, but is mostly used to describe mundane Journal Blog (qv) content. Often used as an epithet but not always taken as one.
Also see: Journal Blog

I guess I qualify as a kittyblogger too. Sigh. And I SO want to be taken as a serious Journal Blogger.....

Then we have some fun stuff....

Blogathy-
noun. When you just don't give a damn about posting in your blog that day.
(coined by
Michele Catalano)

Blogstipation-
1. noun. To be unable to think of anything to blog about, i.e. writer's block for bloggers.
2. noun. To be unable to post an article on your blog because
blogger.com is down yet again.
(meaning 2. coined by
Jim Treacher)

Clog Blog-
noun. A Dutch language blog.

Frog Blog-
noun. Francophone blogs.

Crud-
(I have this sometimes, and try to clean it up afterwards....)
noun. When a blog is published with incorrect html which resulting in visible code on the page, rather than a clickable link or special character or formatted text. The unintentionally visible code is 'crud'.

Link Rot-
(I might have some of this too, but am too lazy to go delete them....)
noun. Over time any large list of links will contain an increasing number of dead links.

Anyway, the whole site is a hoot and worth reading the lot of them. I mean if we ever go to a bloggers convention we want to know the bloggerlingo right?

One day we should have a Dear Diary get together. We could meet in Kansas or someplace in the middle of the country, so EVERYONE has to travel right? Unless we have a DearDiarist in Kansas... are you there Kansas??? Can we camp out in your back yard? Will you provide the potato chips? We will bring the sodas.

I don't have time right now to read all the blog stuff, so I'm creating a new "save" file called BLOG, and when I have nothing pressing, I'll come back here.

I think I must be a Blegger. I keep asking people how to do stuff here in DD.

    Shalom

I'm not so sure about a meeting. Part of the attraction for me is the fact that I can choose to remain anonymous. That's a thing that has actually served me in good stead over the past years. I'll happily ready about any gathering others choose to attend though.

    oh golly ;)

slavboy made a very good comment and i happen to agree with him, i'd rather be labeled a diarist than a 'blogger'. diarist sounds far more flattering and, somehow, slimming

    :)
