Swing Shift
Mon Nov 14 2005

I got called to work this morning, but at least this time they gave me several hours notice. This means I can get my house chores taken care of. It puts me in a much better frame of mind. And I have always rather liked the 3 to 11 shift myself. You can have a life. You just don't have evenings at home, which I can skip once in a while without much distress. It's being gone in the daytime that annoys the daylights out of me. I have THINGS TO DO at home!

So I am whizzing around, doing laundry and cleaning things up. Hub Man and I really did a number on the back yard yesterday. All the heavy work is done for the season. Now if I feel like I want to do some detailing, I will be able to without facing the 20 foot high butterfly bush looming over me. Dang those things grow wild down here in the warm weather. I used to have them up in the mountains and there they were much more well-behaved.

Last night we watched the last hour or so of The Return Of The King. What a great story. And what a wonderful job they did with it. I just cried my eyes out. Tolkein was a genius. Wouldn't he have loved the movies, don't you think?

We were talking the other day that we think we are going to watch less news. I am so affected by it, that sometimes I get downright morbidly depressed. Remember when we used to have an hour of news in the evening? A half hour of the local yokels and half hour of Huntley and Brinkley. That seemed perfectly adequate. I may go back to that. Though I must admit, I am rather hooked on Little Green Footballs and The Drudge Report I confess that I check in on them about 5 or 6 times a day. Now that's just plain silly when you think about it. Once would be enough. I should pick a time and do it then and that's the end of it. All it does is upset me to read the depressing headlines. And I can't do a blasted thing about the things reported upon. Grrrrr.

Well, I am just whining here, and I'm sure you have better things to spend your time on today. Off I go to fold clothes. A non threatening pursuit if ever I heard of one.
