Scottish Games
Sun Apr 30 2006

Hub Man took me to the Scottish Games today. I had just about as much fun as I could stand.

I must tell you, strolling around the fairgrounds watching grown men sauntering around in kilts, with a dirk stashed in their hose and if you were lucky a huge sword slung across their back..... well my friends, it was a happy day.

Especially when Hub Man went into the UtilityKilt booth and tried on this kilt.... Hubba Hubba. He left it there however as this is not a spur of the moment decision when you buy one of those. It's a freaking investment!

Anyway... I found what *I* wanted at the Scottish Games....

A Highland pony. They must use that term loosely, as this was NOT a small horse. I'm sure I have room for her in my back yard. And just think, no more mowing! She had a sweet nature too. I took WAY too many pictures of her.

Then there were the:

Lots and lots of them all over the place. What a wonderful din they made too!

Of course there were other animals that hail from the Highlands....

Much fawning was going on over these little cutie pies.

And finally, I got to satisfy my morbid curiosity about Deep Fried Twinkies.

I only managed three bites of it, but I must say it was not too bad really, in a twisted Elvis kinda way.

Now I can cross this particular culinary item of my "to eat in this lifetime" list. Because I don't think I will be repeating the adventure any time soon.

It was a nice day.

I highly recommend the Scottish Games to one and all, should you ever get the chance to go.

Oh, shoot. I thought I was going to see a picture of Himself in a kilt.

I do, I do love to watch the pipers strutting about, their kilts swinging. About the only time I can enjoy the pipes is outdoors. They are NOT indoor instruments.

I attended the Games one year, when my grandson was still a teenager (15 I think), and watched him toss the caber. He did a right fine job it!

I wonder why I haven't been back? I surely did enjoy that day.

    Shalom

When we lived down in Vancouver we had a neighbor who was a member of the local bagpipe band. I loved listening to him practice, and usually a couple times during the summer the whole group would come over and practice in the cul-de-sac to the joy of many neighbors, and dismay of the others.

    I enjoyed it, that's all that matters...right?

So, how big do the Highland "Pony's" get?

When my son was attending Chico State, he and some friends put together their own 'Scottish Games' although they didn't wear kilts or play the bagpipes. I have it on film...it was hilarious. It's amazing what a few beers will do!!! ;oD

    I loved the animals!

    Take care and God bless.....Parett

Oh man, I was expecting that link to be a shot of the kilted Hubman too, even if from the neck down. ;o) Looks like you had a great time, but I'm with you on skipping the fried twinkie next time. Bleh!
