Phooey Friday
Fri Oct 13 2006

I have been reading up on Friday the 13th on the internet and have decided it's all a bunch of hooey.

And furthermore, if there is a supposed unlucky day in the year, then why isn't there one that is universally considered especially lucky?

Eh? Eh?

Personally, this year I think Friday the 13th is an auspicious day. Simchat Torah begins this evening.

Now what could be unlucky about that?

I've never believed in the hooey either. I always consider it a good day, like all the rest. :o)

I read a long time ago about 13 and why it has such a bad reputation. Don't remember it now. And how 13 and Friday became associated I've forgotten, too.

But being a very unsuperstitious person, I walk under ladders and pet black cats.

    Chag Sameach!!

being in love with numbers as I am, I've also noticed that this Friday is "specially special" coz if you do a simple maths:
sum up all numbers in today's date 13/10/2006, you'll return to the same mysterious 13! ;-)
(not that it means anything, except of fun)

My son was born on a Friday the 13th, so of course I don't consider this to be an unlucky day!

Add it to all the other stuff that is a bunch of hooey and you have a pretty good reason for taking the time to Rejoice in God's word. It is so important..... and necessary to maintain one's sanity.

I'll chime in a little high spirited singing of my own.... "Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice."

I always get slightly offended by the anti-13th attitude so many people have. I was born on the 13th and I turned out okay (I hope)!

It's easy, I swear!! The only thing weird about it is the SKP stitch portion, and all that is is slip one, knit one, pass slipped stitch over knitted stitch. Plus a KFB which is knit one front and back (knit into the front of the stitch like usual, then knit into the back of it (I remove the needle from the stitch, then reinsert it from the opposite direction so the back of the stitch/left leg is now on the front of the needle - probably not technically correct but it works for me - then knit that stitch)). You CAN do this, I promise, it's easy once you do it. Try it and see. :o)

RYC: that was a fine suggestion and I know just the place. It's called Carraroe and it's in the Gaeltecht, Connemara.

The ponies are a thing out of fiction in their beauty. They are short and thick-legged with mobs of hair. They like to be whispered to in the Olde Gaelic and have their chin whiskers scratched while spells are cast.

The gardens are a bit of wonder. The moderate weather with so much rain brings them alive in their abundance so I'm sure you could find someone who needed help in the harvest and preparation of such things.

I'll sit back in the rocker by the peat fire while you harvest but then I'll have to have my hand in the preparations of the meal, now wouldn't I?
