Out With The Old
Sun Dec 31 2006

I have to warn you.
If you are a plant in my yard or garden this winter that is poking along, looking scraggly, getting weedy or not pulling your weight you will most likely be eliminated. Overgrown is not a good look in a garden.

I've been rather ruthless to tell you the truth. But then in my defense, I also transplanted a nice volunteer butterfly bush to an honored spot in the front yard too. So I'm not a total maniacal gardener gone nuts.

I am particularly excited about some Sweet Williams that decided to grow in the vegetable beds this last summer. I have no idea where they came from. I found them one day hiding under the tomato plants while I was looking for ripe ones to pick.

They don't bloom the first year at all. They just grow greenery. Here, I'll go take a picture of my soon to be treasures.

They don't look like much right now, but just wait till Spring. I just love them. They are so old fashioned and simple. But you have to be patient for them. That's what makes them special.

I could say a lot of things about it being a new year and all, but honestly, my new year began at Rosh Hashana in the fall. So this one seems a little less dramatic.

This doesn't stop me however from making resolutions. But I'm keeping them to myself this year. Perhaps that will enhance the chances of them being followed through on.

And I don't know about you, but I've just about had it up to here with holidays. I'm ready to get back to the business of life.

Hope the New Year's Fairy is good to you.
