In another life, I think I was a scientist. In this life I have a serious lack of education for those higher pursuits. Therefore I fall back on the things that are readily at hand.

Food.

I love to mess around with all things.... fermented and temperature sensitive in the food realm. Making bread in scientific terms is cultivating yeasts. Waking them up, feeding them, encouraging them to grow, and then killing them off in the oven.

You know, science.

In the course of my domestic science career I have made cheese, bread, gingerale, sourdough from fermented raisins, rootbeer, homemade soap, [the ultimate in science experiments in the kitchen in case you were wondering] and of course, yogurt.

Here's my latest batch, cooling down from its required 180 degree scald. Ain't it purrrrty?

    You are far more adventurous in the food science department than I, my friend! Good for you!

    Of course, if I had a little red hen to help out maybe even *I* could make yogurt and soap. (yeah right. lol).

    ummmm, yeah. Purty. Purty scary. I'm still having visions of Sam & Ella visiting.

    I remember, years ago when I was a very small child, a brandy experiment that went horribly wrong underneath my parents bathroom sink.

    I'm scarred for life, what can I say??????/

    I have to say, somehow I think the yogurt phase is much safer for me than the cookie phase was. Not that I don't like yogurt, mind you, but I'm very happy with my yoplait. ;o) It's very interesting to be sure. Can you be my own personal Alton Brown? LOL
