Rainy Day Schedule
Thu Feb 22 2007

It's raining today.

Rain is good.

We need rain.

Rainy days also bring a different atmosphere. Literally and figuratively.

I had a mental list of things I wanted to do, 'on a rainy day'.

But I seem to have forgotten everything on it, silly me.

* * * *

I am on a quest to find a really great hand lotion. I have noticed my poor aging skin is thirsting for moisture. I have bought and rejected quite a number of lotions in the past months and have come to the conclusion I could use some help. Any suggestions?

What's your favorite hand/body lotion? I am partial to highly scented ones. But I also have an aversion to any lotions that have a 'greasy' smell, or that odd metallic chemical smell of cheap ones. Don't care at all for coconut, or vanilla. But with those caveats, I am open to your recommendations.

* * * *

I'm finding the new sock pattern slow going. That tiny yarn! And as I approach the heel flap, I feel my anxiety growing with the socks. Silly me. It's just a sock. Right?

* * * *

I heard it though the grapevine that Mamallama has over a foot of snow on the ground at her house. [Me brudder told me.] Can you see the green of my envy? I'm hoping for pictures! It's as close as I'm going to get to real snow today I'm sure.

* * * *

I was informed by BlueHeron yesterday that the little stone man in my back yard is called an 'inukshuk'. They are stone markers made by the Inuit. Who knew? Now I like him even more.

* * * *

Well, off I go into the day. I'll see if I can locate my 'rainy day project' list somewhere.

(Good luck with that cupcake.)

    I tried loads of expensive hand creams but the thing that works the best is good old Vaseline ( petroleum jelly ) Lather it on at night when you go to bed ..and when you wake up in the morning you will have the beautiful soft hands of a 5 year old ! Really you should try it ..and a huge pot is pennies and lasts forever .It works better than any expensive concoction .

    I like Jergens Ultra Healing. I have very dry skin, too. It's unscented, but you can get the "original scent" by buying the Cherry-Almond lotion. I have a bottle I'd be happy to give you. Bought it by mistake.

    My rainy day list for today is a funeral.

    I keep saying the older I get the more reptilian I become. VERY DRY SKIN.

    My favorite is Ginger Souffle. The smell is heavenly. You get it at the Origins counter at Macy's. A little pricy at $26 for a 6oz.(?) jar, but a little goes a long way and lasts a long time. And remember...you are worth it!!

    The other one I like that works well is a body cream by Camille Beckman. Comes in lots of flavors. I have apricot that someone gave me. I like other scents better, so if you like it I will give it to you. I got mine in FB, but I'm sure you can find it at the mall somewhere.

    One more that works for me is Lubriderm in the RED bottle.

    All of these work very fast and are NOT greasy. I hate greasy.

    Good luck Lizzy Lizard. :o)

    My current favorite lotion is one of the Aveeno lotions, this one to be exact:

    Great for hands and the rest of the bod!

    If you like highly scented lotions I would suggest Happy Daisy by Bath & Body Works. That should do the trick.

    Something else I really, really like is St. Ives Intensive Healing. My skin is VERY dry and it does a bang up job of keeping me from getting scaly. Downside for you is that it's fragrance free.

    Due to the nature of my work, not to mention that I'm an obsessive compulsive handwasher, in the winter my hands really take a beating so twice a week I slather them in Bag Balm (not to be confused with Udder Cream) then put socks over my hands before I go to bed. It works for me, lol

    I think you'll remember her when I describe her. When you and Himself started coming, Helen was already sick, and they weren't coming very much.

    I'll bring the lotion.

    The lotion I've found works best for me and isn't greasy at all is the WalMart brand replica of Lubriderm. The "replica" found at WalMart is Equate brand and it'll say on it "compare to Lubriderm". Lubriderm is great but Equate is less expensive. I don't know if they have scents as I get unscented though...

    I like Gold Bond Ultimate, and I'm picky. It starts out super greasy but in minutes it fades away so well you forget you have anything on at all. Except your hands no longer feel dry. I usually suffer through dry hands when I knit or crochet because I don't want to risk getting something on the yarn, but I'll happily use this stuff. Plus, when I wash my hands later it is very apparent that the lotion is still there and working, it didn't fade away to nothing.

    Rick really likes Cetaphil with a drop or two of olive oil to make it go a bit farther. It's thick. I haven't tried it yet.

    I've been using "Udderly Smooth" (from Trader Joe's) on my hands and feet at nighttime. Works great! But, probably not good for daytime. Cetaphil is expensive and does not have much of a fragrance, but it is supposed to survive multiple hand-washings, and if you rub it in well, it won't feel greasy. I have tons of samples of Mary Kay scented lotions--let me know if you want me to send you some! They smell great, and they would be FREE!
