Netflix Anyone?
Fri Mar 09 2007

Well, the final straw of the cat getting on my case pushed me into getting on with the socks. I finished the second heel and picked up the stitches for the gusset. In many ways, the trickiest part of the sock, that pick up stitch part... So now they both await some gusset shaping and really, after that it's a piece of cake.

(Her overconfidence is her greatest weakness)

Yeah, well, we shall see.

We are thinking long and hard about opening a Netflix account. I have been doing some checking up on it on the internet and have read some horror stories. I was wondering if any of you use Netflix and what has been your experience with them. We were just thinking of getting the 10.00 a month membership. I'm a little leary to tell you the truth after what I have read. But then it's possible that the only people writing are the grouches and grumps. It's hard to tell.

The peach tree is starting to bloom. It never does get in full bloom all at once. This year there are many more blossoms than we had last year. And we sprayed the daylights out of it for peach leaf curl, so I'm hoping we don't have that problem this season. I have been playing bee again with my soft paint brush, tickling the pollen on each blossom. I haven't seen any bees working the tree, so I'm going to have to do it. Though later on I'll have to get a ladder to reach the ones up high. So far only the lower ones are in bloom. . . The things I do for a tree ripened peach....

Okay, gotta git, the needles are waiting....

Netflix - I haven't heard or read anything bad about them myself and have been thinking about joining, too. What's held ME back is they only offer DVDs and not videos, and while I have acces to a DVD player both on my office computer and on the BF's studio computer, I don't have DVD hooked up to my TV and want to be able to watch movies there, not on a computer. If they had video I'd have joined already I think. Where did you read the horror stories?

Oh, congrats on finishing your 2nd heel!

I don't use Netflix. In fact I so rarely rent anything that I can't remember when I did. If I ever did.

I've seen some ads by the walk-in big store for movies and such have a similar program, but you have to go to the store. If there's one nearby, then waiting for the mail seems like waiting for the mail.

    But what do I know?

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product. Socks, that is.

    Shalom

No experience with NetFlix so I can't help you there.

You'll, of course, take a pic of the peach tree doing it's thing, yes??????

I have Blockbuster Online. It's more expensive, but I like being able to return the movies to the store and immediately get replacements sometimes. If I mail the movies back, I get replacements in about 5 days, which is perfect timing since I only watch movies on the weekends anyway. I like being able to browse through the lists of movies, read reviews, and make a "wish list," but you can do that with Netflix, too. My sister had Netflix, and she really liked it and had no problems. I've always been really bad about returning rented movies on time, so this method is good for me because I don't have all those dumb late fees.

I have Netflix and I LOVE IT! The mail center for our area is in West Sac. If we drop a viewed disk in the mail on a Wednesday we have a new movie waiting for us usually on Friday but _for sure_ on Saturday. I strongly suspect that if you dropped a movie in the box on a Thursday that you'd have a movie on Friday.

We had Netflix but stopped getting it. Not because Netflix did anything wrong. My husband was picking the movies, which is fine. I had my input too. But he would pick some real stupid movies, i.e. PuddyTang. Sorry if anybody likes it. But I thought is was just plan stupid. The trouble was he wanted me to watch the movies with him.

My husband did not want to watch movies during the week because he was too tired and wanted to go home early. His latest addiction to World of Warcraft does not atest to this by the way. Many a night I have had to ask him at midnight are you going to bed soon?

But I digress. Anyway it would be months before we got a new movie.

I think Netflix is a great idea. But you got to watch the movies for it to be cost affective. (well duh to me lol)

We use Netflix and love it. We currently get 3 movies out at a time (about $19 and change a month with tax) and I figure that's the most I'll spend to rent movies. Thing is we'd cut back drastically on the amount of cable movie channels we were getting and never watched, so even at nearly $20 a month it is still saving us quite a lot of buckage. I do notice sometimes that there is a 'delay' in receiving movies but nothing I can really blame on them - I've read those horror stories too. Personally I think it's a good service, I've considered switching to Blockbuster but as there isn't one close to us at all (and the one that is relatively close is a smaller store without a good selection) and the price is more I decided against making the switch. We currently have 39 movies in our queue, I generally do all the picking (Rick picks out of our few remaining movie channels). I like it overall, we get to see movies that would never be available in stores or theaters in our area, we get to see all the classics we want to see when we want to see them. I love the reviews because they are real people reviews, not just Ebert and his grand opinion. Oh - and I do believe it's strictly a month to month thing with Netflix, so if you signed up and didn't like the service you could always cancel without penalty. I vote yes (since you're asking), with the hope of adding you to my friends list so we can review movies back and forth too. :o)

How's the sock coming along now?

YAY! I was wondering if that would arrive today or if you'd have to wait until Monday. All those episodes are ones I saved because I felt there was good info in them, not necessarily the patterns... well, in a few cases like the pillows, it is the patterns. Maybe a sweater, can't remember. In any case I too felt better when I heard her talk about gussets, but liked her suggestion to pick up two stitches for the gusset enough to try that. If I ever get to the gusset on the second sock I'll give it a go again.

I would like to learn to spin but never will be able to afford a wheel. Well, most likely never. I could use a drop spindle but just how much of that will I be able to stand? Probably not enough to get yarn to make more than a hat or a scarf. Not both. Definitely good information though. :o)

I have no Netflix experience so cannot add my 2 cents worth on that one. I am glad though that you have gotten past the heel trauma and can get those socks finished. :)
