Something amazing is happening in our back yard. Something I never expected to have with in a few feet of my door.
Growing up in the mountains does not prepare one for this kind of thing.
Apples? Sure.
Pears? Absolutely.
Peaches?
Not so much.

In the last few days they have turned this wonderful red blush color and therefore show up very well. I didn't realize there were this many. Before they were green and hard to spot in the heavy leaf cover. They are of the variety O'Henry.

No. They are not ripe yet.
I squeeze.
They resist.
I persist.
They remain adamant.
We are not ripe yet!
Once in a while one will fall off, like unripe fruit will do from time to time. It's always a tragedy to us. Some of the fallen get attacked by ants. Some split open a bit. Others look just perfect, but they never ripen. Yesterday a fallen peach even got chewed on by a mouse. (Hub Man and Hamlet saw the mouse, Hamlet gave chase. The mouse escaped.) I retrieved the peach and sure enough, it had teeth marks on it.
Peaches are my favorite fruit on the entire planet.
They are growing in my back yard.
This must mean something.
In Pirket Avot (Sayings of the Fathers) it says:
"Who is rich?
He who is content with his lot."
Well then, I am very very rich indeed.
Peach rich.
But I have to wait a little while longer.
Before I come into my inheritance.
(Even MY mouth is watering at the prospect. . . )
As well it should.
