You know summer is an interesting time of year.
You are just are going about your business, a little slowly perhaps because you are trying to get over the absence of the short dark hairy one with the sweet white paws and you fiddle around in the kitchen making peach butter in the crock pot all day in between knitting sessions in which you are trying to finish up the 'frankensweater' as you have taken to calling it because you have a feeling the thing will be big enough to fit him when completed and while you are busy pinching, poking, and prodding peaches in your vain attempt at perfecting a 'ripeness test' that so far is turning out to be a dismal predictor of readiness to eat, but you pick several anyway because you are horrified when any of them fall off the tree and get smooshed [even though you have placed pillows and blankets under the tree to try and prevent this damage] thus adding to the growing collection of slightly unripe peaches resting in neat rows on top of newspaper on your kitchen work table...., [gasp for breath] . . . elsewhere in the garden, vegetables are . . . doing things. . . . behind your back.
