Caught Unprepared
Wed Jan 02 2008

Today I was going to post a link to Frodo's ad on Petfinder.

Instead I will be showing you his adoptive family.

It happened so fast that frankly I am still in shock. The reality will sink in sometime when I'm least prepared for it.

Anyway, here is the nice lady who came to meet Frodo:

Please note if you will, the way Frodo is looking at her. He surprised the daylights out of me when he warmed up to her in less than five minutes. I was just gobsmacked. And I knew that this could work for him. And for them.

Here is her very nice husband:

They are retired and seem to be very patient and calm people. Just what Frodo needs. They DO have grandchildren with two golden retrievers nearby so Frodo will have doggie friends from time to time.

They lost their other Sheltie a month ago, and just could not bear to have no dog in the house. When it was time to go, Frodo, who is not at all fond of cars, jumped right into theirs, no problem. And he didn't look back when they drove off.

I think he knew he was in good hands.

And I guess I did my job.

I'm expecting the water works to start later in the day.... say around walkies time.

Fiona will miss him most I think. Last night she decided to jump on Sunny's head while she was fast asleep and Sunny came up growling. Fiona has been scared of her ever since. We are going to have to work on this. She didn't know how good she had it with Frodo. He was an exceptionally gentle dog with cats. I hope we can convince Sunny that Fiona is a good playmate. And convince Fiona that Sunny won't eat her in one bite.

Anyway, we expect to be a little subdued around here today.

On many levels.

Fare thee well our Frodo!

What a beautiful dog! Good for you for helping in his rescue. It must be reassuring knowing he is going to a good home. I'm sure he will have a long and happy doggy life!

Ah, I'm tearing up here. The work you are doing can be heartbreaking, but you have given Frodo a chance for a good life with a loving family.

All the best to you and your family, furry and otherwise, in 2008. Reading your diary is one of the bright spots in my day.

Oh! What mixed emotions. Very, very happy for Frodo and his new family; but sad for you and yours.

*sniffs* The water works started here as soon as I saw the picture of Frodo looking up at her.

I think he knew he had found a family.

Ah, yes. The teary time. *sigh* But you know he went to a good home.

I'm thinking that Frodo maybe hit the mother load, especially if he warmed up to Tha Mrs. in such a short time.

You've done a good job with him if he's that comfortable given what he was like just a few weeks ago!

He was lucky to have you as his mentor

A mix of happy and sad tears.
    Bye Frodo.
    I know you'll have a happy life.

I missed this post! Poor family and missing Frodo too! But I'll bet his new mom and dad are really happy to have him. How lovely that you have these photos to remember!
