Let Her Eat Beans
Tue Mar 11 2008

I'm sort of taking a mental health day today.

I called to see how Piper is doing in her new place and sounds like all is well. I then called Frodo's family too since I was on a roll and he is doing famously. So I feel better now.

Hub Man is on a trip to Florida to inspect a big bit of machinery on wheels that his work is buying. He's supposed to give it the thumbs up before they ship it out here.
And while he is there, he will take a class or two on said equipment and get up to speed on their improvements since last he was there.

Ergo, I am "Home Alone" in a loosely interpreted way considering Sunny and Fiona are here too. Sunny is sort of sleeping it off now that Piper is gone. She is enjoying not being disturbed during her afternoon naps.

I cooked up a storm this morning thinking if I got it all done, I wouldn't have to do anything in that department for the next several days. I have a pot of great northern beans, assorted vegetable lunches all made, raw vegetables cut up, iced tea made and feel like I'm set. I cleaned up the kitchen, did two loads of laundry and generally got some stuff out of the way.

Oh yeah I also went out to the old defunct park and brought home some wood from two fallen trees to burn in my fire pot that Hub Man made for me. I kept looking at those at the home improvement stores, but they always wanted over a hundred dollars for them. So this is what he made for me when I asked him to:

It's an old brake drum from a truck, and he bent two old mower blades for the legs.

Here's the firewood laid ready for tonight:

I have been feeling the need for a really real fire for some time. Put it down to having a wood stove as my primary heat in the house for years and years. It's just one of those primal things....

Tomorrow I have no commitments of any kind. I'm not sure what I am going to do with the day. I'm hoping to come up with something inspired. But don't hold your breath. I'm really boring most of the time.

Oh! I forgot to say, the annual Air Show is this weekend. The last two years it was in June so I wasn't expecting it this early. I'm all ready. They will start practicing on Thursday if things go as before. I can't wait!

Squeeeeee! I actually noticed the fire thingy in yesterdays entry picture but I felt it would be insensitive to enquire about it under the circumstances.

That is just one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Isn't HubMan the clever one?????

RYC: We used to live in a home that butted up to a horse farm and Einstein (our first Golden, the one before Maggie) and Chance used to scoot under the split rail fence into the pasture and roll in horse poo every so often. They'd come home smelling to high heaven and grinning from ear to ear.

Not quite cow poop but close.......

That is the neatest little fire pot I've ever seen, and a monument to (Hub)Man's ingenuity! Enjoy!

    I love your fire pit!!!
    You must be out there.

Poo. I was talking to CR just the other day and told him about the air show, thinking it was this summer, and we planned on coming down. *sigh*
    Maybe next year.
    Hugs, Tiggs

Now that is a super Fire Pot!! A suggestion for the stick gather. Whip up a saddle bag type thing that will fit Sunny for I know you can , place two small book packs togather and Sunny will be your stick hauler and enjoy a tidbit cooked over the pot just for the effort.
