Yarn de Triomphe
Sun Mar 16 2008

I hath completed mine sweater.

It is magnifique.

It is luscious.

It is yummy.

And in all other ways perfection.

Fiona supervised its final stages of construction.

She thinks everything in this house belongs to her.

Everything.

I sewed my seams using the mattress stitch and they are perfect. The front edges hang just nicely. My guage must be pretty steady. It took me about four and a half hours to finish it. Sewing up sweater seams is not something I do every day, so it was stressful. I really had to go to my zen place. I got on my bike for a while to go watch the jets flying, so as not to get cranky at one point.

Here is a picture that shows the texture of the yarn quite well:

It also shows the wide variations in the colors. It has several tones of brown and bits of gray.

Here is a close up of the clasp:

I chickened out in making buttonholes. Besides I don't button sweaters anyway.
I'm glad I chose a clasp. It suits this yarn in my opinion.

And last but not least, Fiona tried to claim the finished product, but I'm having none of it.

This is my sweater. Made with special yarn from my special friend P.

I learned a lot knitting this sweater. I learned that no knitted object is an island unto itself. At various points during its creation, I asked advice from two women in my knitting guild, one person on Ravelry, and from my entire Tuesday afternoon knitting group.

The way I figure it, there is a line of wisdom that goes back all the way to the first person who started fiddling with two sticks and some fiber. I am indebted to them all.
And I think I am even more aware of this line because of the nature of this barely processed yarn. It has the character of a sweater that might have been knit in Scotland a few centuries ago.

I like that idea.

It suits me.

One should also understand for future reference, that black sheep really aren't black. They are brown. This may have some deep philosophical meaning. [Or not] I'm just making note of it.

Anyway, I love my sweater that I knit with way more than a 'little' help from my friends.

What a beautiful job you did!
    It is stunning.
I love the clasp. I don't think I would have liked buttons on it either. They would have taken something away.
    Congratulations!
    Job well done.
    Hugs, Tiggs

    It's beautiful!

Your air show made the news up here, or rather the goat that was scared into giving birth to her twins when the Blue Angels flew over the farm made the news!

It's lovely! And the clasp sets it off just so.

You were so lucky to have Fiona's supervision. Be careful she doesn't let those sharp little claws get caught in the wool, though :-) And the tendency probably would have shown up by now, but just in case: some cats are wool-eaters, especially cats with any Siamese in their background. Watch out for that. Sura left his mark on several garments before we got careful enough.

That is gorgeous! It's the prettiest Hobbit sweater that was ever knitted! The silver clasp absolutely finishes it perfectly. I declare that sweater fabulous!

I'm here to tell you all that it is a right nice sweater! I can't wear wool, but I like the feel of that particular wool, and it looks very nice on the knitter herself.

    In fact, it's beautifully done!

I agree about the clasp; it was the perfect touch and gives it an elegant air.
