Crawling Out From the Heaps
Tue Aug 05 2008

I am slowly making my way through 7 loads of laundry.

I keep putting things away, but the piles stay the same size.

I need a class in efficient travel packing.

I flunked this test real bad.

I think I need a tutor.

As a good indicator of how chaotic things are around here, The Hen is taking a nap.

The main focus of our vacation revolved around spending a few days at something called a skydiving 'boogie', which entails people from all over the country congregating in one spot and jumping out of airplanes as many times as they can manage. Which I think for this boogie hovered around 12 loads a day.

Hub Man did not do that many. I think you have to be a little crazed to make every load.

We were in a remote part of Montana, far up north.

Anyway, while there, we camped in our tent.

Here is the rustic site we picked up on the hill in the trees.

(Remember this decision)

We scrounged around and found two old barrels and two boards and made a very decent camp table out of them.

Our chosen site also came with outdoor carpeting....

I have to mention it before I forget. One night I had to leave the tent to take care of the results of drinking a bit too much water. [It's hard to stay hydrated when you are outdoors all day and night]... I stumbled out of the zippered door to behold a sky absolutely ablaze with stars. The milky way was clearly visible. I almost fell over trying to take it all in.
I live in a hazy, light polluted place, and it has been a long long time since I have seen the night sky properly. To say I was gobsmacked would be an understatement. I wandered around as best I could, stumbling over the clumps of grass and marveled at the beauty of it. No wonder our ancestors were fascinated by the stars. I'm sure at that time, they could all see them well. Now I understand it is a privilege to live in a place where they shine in all their splendor.

This one small thing was one of the highlights of our trip for me anyway...

I saw stars.

    Nice looking camp.
Did Little Red and ( ) have a good time?
I would think in that lovely setting even ( ) could find little to complain about.
    Well...we can always hope.

Hey nice camp if it doesn't rain for slope can make for wet tent floor.
Love the carpet as Muley or Elk seem to like the area. It has been awhile you packed for a road trip but seems we always take way to much STUFF.

I'd like to nominate R as your tutor. That man can pack tighter than anyone I've ever seen, though the suitcases tend to weigh about as much as baby elephants ;)

I'm lucky enough to live where the stars are very visible and yes it is a sight to behold many nights! Makes you aware of how small a part of the whole we are. NIce pics, glad you enjoyed it!

I have two words to say about comfortable camping.

    Chemical Toilet.

They aren't that bad to clean when you get home, and those middle of the night trips are made much easier....I recommend using it first, then popping outside to look at those wonderful stars!

The location is very pretty, but I could do without the outdoor carpeting. :)

We see quite a few stars here, yet it doesn't come close to those wilderness areas far away from city lights. Even though we are 25 miles from Portland, the glow it gives off obliterates at least a third of the night sky. *sigh*

What a treat to see it in all its glory.

Glad to hear you are both home safely and that you saw something in the sky other than your husband! Did he shine as brightly on his jumps???
