What Are Ya Gonna Do?
Mon Nov 24 2008

We had a visitor this weekend.

Mallory the German Shepherd puppy.

She was adorable. And vocal. Don't leave her alone in a room. She doesn't LIKE it...

She pestered Sunny to death. As puppies are wont to do. Sunny finally had to show Mallory her teeth. That sure works wonders in the dog world. I may have to give that a try...

Our dear Pal has been sent off to the boarding facility for the time being. He decided to rough Fiona up again. It was his last chance. I took him over there yesterday afternoon and cried all the way home. It is a very nice place with really good people running it. But I feel like a big fat failure.

The good news is that we also got an inquiry about him by email late yesterday afternoon, so maybe he won't be spending too much time away from a home environment. I hope it works out. He's a good enough dog, he just hates cats. What can I tell you. We all have our problems....

Sigh.

So, because the Sheltie Rescue is VERY busy right now, we will be taking in a new dog on Wednesday. . .

Oh yeah, I'm certifiable. I know this. I should be in therapy.

All I know is he is two years old, a tri-color Sheltie, name of Ben. His owner bless her heart has to go to an assisted living place and can't take him with her. I also hear he is fine with cats. I hope Fiona will give him a fair chance at making friends, but after her recent experiences, I would not blame her if she swore off dogs for good. She USED to really dig playing with dogs.

Here's an example, Piper and Fiona in the good old days....

Oh rats. It's taking too long to upload the video to YouTube. I'll have to post it another day. I'll work on it. Sorry for the delay.

Anyway, we have two days to try to recover from our emotional issues with having to let Pal go before he actually has a new home... I hope this doesn't happen too often. It's hard enough to let them go when they are with excited and loving people who want them, but sending him off to boarding school. . . well that's a bit more than I want to deal with very often, I'll tell you.

You know I'm as compassionate
as the next hen,
but this is getting messy.
Not that I'm all that fond
of that feline mind you.
But the comings and goings
are fraying my feathers
I can tell you.
And on top of everything else,
there will be granddaughters
here for Thanksgiving...
with a new dog in the house.
Seems to me one should be
minding the pies instead.

(Pies? Pies? You are worried about pies? Do you KNOW what the main course is for Thanksgiving dinner? Methinks it might be your cousin... and you are worried about pies? You need to wake up and smell the pumkin there Red. You are living in a VERY strange household. There are things going on that you are in complete denial about. Shelties are the least of your problems.)

I'm sorry to hear about Pal but you did the best you could do under the circumstances *sigh*. I was contacted about doing a Persian rescue recently but had to turn it down because the cat had territory issues and I didn't feel like it would be in her best interest to join my multi-furred household.

If I hear you use the word failure one more time I may have to hurt you.
    Got it?
It is NOT common for dogs and cats to get along. When you start them when they are younger you have a better chance at success, but good ole Pal was not a puppy. HE failed, not you.
    So there.
    Hugs, Tiggs

What? Is that concern coming from ()?

My, oh my, the world really has turned up-side-down.

Sorry about Pal, but it does sound like you did the right thing. Clearly, Pal needs a cat free home. I trust Fiona is ok.
