Imagine the last picture of the back yard, only without all the bush clippings on the ground. I chopped them up, Hub Man (bless him) stuffed them into the green waste container. And I do mean stuffed. I wish we could make an old fashioned winter pruning burn pile like I used to do in the country. But here in the burbs, they frown on burn piles. I did save some of the larger limbs for my little fire pot. I cleaned it all out the other day all ready for a fresh fire. And best of all, I planted some sweet pea seeds along the fence. I am now sprouting more of them in a rolled up paper towel on the kitchen counter. I may get some more seeds this week and keep planting them everywhere in the yard. This year I want sweet peas. I want LOTS of sweet peas. They are just a little bit tricky to grow here in this climate. I am going for the volume approach. Plant 100 seeds, hope for 30 plants. Hope it works.
Of course I realize that this is January. I also realize most of the country is in the firm grip of a nasty winter. Even we are surprised by the weather we are having. It is sweater weather in the daytime, but at night we get frost, just to remind us it IS winter.
I sprayed the fruit trees with dormant spray today. I bought the kind that is supposed to take care of all the nasty things that might happen to our peaches. It smells horrible and the warnings on the container scared me. Up until now, I have only sprayed with copper spray which was no big deal. This stuff smells of sulfur and looks evil.
A sort of yellow/orange/brown color that reminded me of antibiotics for some reason. I hope it works. We are supposed to do it one more time right before blossom time. I'm not looking forward to it. I'm only doing it in hopes of sweet ripe peaches.
Well, that's about it from the gardening chronicles for now. I'm not finished out there yet. But progress is being made.
It's a good thing too. We will be all ready in case it snows.
(Snow? Are you delusional?)

Oh goody! Snow! I like snow!
(Now see what you have done? She thinks it's going to snow. What's wrong with you?)
