Ben decided that Sierra's idea of resting her head on her toy was a really great idea, so he tried it. He fell asleep while evaluating its finer points....
Ben is not one to let a good idea go to waste.
Speaking of which, not long ago I brushed Ben out and got a nice little baggie full of undercoat fur. One of my friends at the knitting group has recently learned to spin yarn from all manner of animal fibers. I asked if she wanted to try a little dog fuzz and she very graciously accepted the challenge.
This is what she made:
She even made two plys! I plan to use this yarn to make a little pouch of some kind, combined with some other odd bits I have laying around the house. Knitters and spinners are the very BEST sort of people....
In other news, Sierra has been to the vet and had her thyroid function tested and it was so low it didn't even register on the first test they did. No wonder she is so over weight. 50 pounds to be exact. Her normal weight is 35. So we have her on her medicine again and a low fat diet. She is allowed to have some moderate exercise, so today we went for our first walk around the block. She actually trotted about half of the way. I was so happy! There's an active Sheltie in there somewhere. I hope to see her very soon.
She is not well enough to get her teeth cleaned and we will have to wait a month. But she is on antibiotics that will help her teeth in the meantime. Poor thing.
Today has been a busy one. I have fielded at least four phone calls from Hub Man.
He was giving me the blow by blow of a Sam's Club run, and called to describe the weather... [rain and lots of it] and the fact that they are going out to see Clint Black in concert tonight. I'm sure he will like that. Oh yes, and he needed me to read off his cheesecake recipe to him as they are whipping one up.
The farm box came today and I cleaned and put away most of it. I juiced the oranges, cooked some apples for sauce, and roasted potatoes, carrots and beets in the oven. Yesterday I cooked up a big pot of chicken too. After I make some Irish Soda bread later on this afternoon, I won't have to cook a thing for days and days.
I also planted 32 gladiolus bulbs and two short rows of carrots.
I'm worn out just telling about it.
Time for a knitting break.
Roast beet anyone?
