Dragon In The Garden
Tue Jun 02 2009

Yesterday I was sitting in the back yard talking to my mom on the phone, and around the corner came the most stunning dragonfly!

He landed on a support stick in the tomato pot. I ran in to get my camera and ended up following him around the yard till he found a spot where he was willing to have his portrait taken.

I have to tell you, I took 20 pictures of him to get only two that were in focus. Sheesh. That automatic focus thingy is nice most of the time, but boy there are times I long for my old Konica where *I* decided how to focus it.

Anyway, here he is...

Wow. That's one handsome dragonfly.

I'm glad he decided to visit our yard. He's welcome any time.

Too bad he isn't red.
Now a RED dragonfly...
THAT would really be something.

A very handsome dragon fly indeed! Because of our pond we get them in for breeding and it seems like the air is alive with them. Maybe I can get some pics this year but I doubt they'd top that one ;)

GORGEOUS photo! I swear it is the same Dragonfly that spends hours sitting on the top of a bamboo stick in my pot of dahlias! I have yet to snap a pic, but doubt I could get as perfect one as you managed.

The most amazing things seem to come your way..... turkeys, peacocks and now a stunning dragonfly.

I have never seen an orange one. Up here they are typically a somewhat metalic blue-green.

Fear not for a little known fact is the Dragonfly is the best MOSQUITO eater by far, When they show up they clear the air.
I too have never seen a orange one.

I have NEVER seen such a brilliant dragonfly! He's gorgeous. I've seen neon blue lots of times, but never one so beautifully orange!!!

    Thanks for sharing him!

I think he's called a "Flame Skimmer". We've got some magnificent dragonflies in my area, but nothing like that. I'm jealous.
