Alaska, More Of It
Tue Jun 30 2009

While we were in town one afternoon, we spied a fishing contest going on across the street and went to investigate.

This young man was nice enough to haul his fish back out of a plastic bag to let us get a picture. His fish weighed 38 pounds. Wowzer!

I heard later that the winning salmon weighed 48 pounds. That's a lotta Salmon!

A few more pictures from the glacier expedition...

Sea Otters. I was amazed at how BIG they were!  We were told they were about 5 feet long. They even had an otter pelt on the boat that the park ranger took around so we could all pet it. A lovely soft thing it was too.

On the way back we passed a few small icebergs. This one had SUCH a color to it. The picture does not do it justice. The blue was absolutely luminous.

We slowed down for people to take pictures of something on the other side of the boat, and I got distracted completely by what was going on in the water. All these little clumps of ice were popping and making little rings in the water.

You can't really see it of course, but the air bubbles being released into the water made the whole area sort of carbonated. It was like floating in a sea of 7-Up!
With a side of snap, crackle, pop.  Amazing.

And finally, a group of three glaciers we cruised by. The middle one was like a slide at a water park with dips.

More tomorrow.

Nice Sockeye ready for spawn. The King you caught and lost was way bigger. Did you notice that on the Left side of the three glaciers picture that thier is a giant Otter image at waters edge.

    Breathtakingly beautiful!

So, does little Miss Sunshine still want to take home an otter?
