(Enough With The Moose Already)
Mon Jul 06 2009

I am knitting away on a pair of socks for my friend.

It feels good to be making another pair of these. I just love them.

Fiona has to inspect everything. I think I have the go ahead to continue. I'll see if I can get her paw on it this afternoon.

I feel very smug in the gardening department.  A few days ago, I picked all the corn and froze it. I also dried some in the dehydrator. Someone told me I could add it to cornbread. That's on my list of things to try.

Anyway about two nights after said harvest, the dogs woke me up about midnight. I couldn't figure out what their problem was. Then I heard a scraping sound and something fell over outside. So all three of us bumbled our way outside, me with the flashlight. The dogs chased what I can only assume was a raccoon up and over the side gate. It had knocked over a large storage container that Sierra's owner used to store her dog food in. It was empty, but the raccoon was trying to open it anyway. I'm sure, he originally came into the yard for the corn. Well, I got to it first!  So THERE!

I've been on a bit of a 'move things along to their next incarnation' phase around here. Last week I put four things on our front lawn with big FREE signs on them.

An old dog crate with a rusty door, a cat carrier that was given to us, the storage bin of raccoon fame, and my old [still runs fine-ish] vacuum cleaner complete with extra belt and dust bags.

By the end of the day all four things had disappeared. I felt like I had won the lottery! That stuff is out of my hair, and someone else will be using them!  Win, Win!

The next project is to tidy up the overgrowth in the garden. It's very jungley right now. I think I will take some before and afters just for fun. We are planning a birthday party for Hub Man in a few weeks. It's the big 6 'Oh My God I can't believe I'm this old' party. I want the yard to look presentable. I'm going to pull up dead plants and do some re-planting in some of the pots around. Petunias are on top of my list.

Today I promised myself to get some housework done. I've been a little dazed and confused since coming home from Alaska. Maybe it's a side effect of being close to the Arctic circle. The atmosphere is thinner or something.

I'm told that I need to go back in January so I can see it in its other mode. They tell me there are two seasons in Alaska. Winter, and Construction.

Heh heh.

Maybe next time I'll see a Moose. They were all busy elsewhere when I was there. Even though I was informed that one often would walk through the neighborhood.

What a concept.

"What happened to your petunias?"
"Moose ate 'em."
 "Awww, tough break."

Okay, back to the laundry.

No more Moose talk.
The bathrooms await you.
The scrub brush is by the door.
Buk! Buk!
Hop to it.

I wonder if Missy has some raccoon ancestry. Any kind of container needs to be investigated: metal cans, plastic containers, papers sacks, whatever. If there's a lid that needs to be removed, she goes crazy!! I don't dare leave a drawer slightly open.

I like the socks. They look familiar. Oh, yes, I have a pair. I'm sure Fiona will give you the go-ahead. She's a beautiful cat, very healthy looking. Love the gloss of that black fur!

Corn, lots of corn. And all the other nice things in your garden. I think it's too late in the season to start anything, but I'm going to ask the manager if maybe 2 or 3 of us renters could start a raised bed between two buildings. Looks to me to be a perfect spot.

The big 60, huh. He's very well preserved. :D

    Bless
