Paperwhite's Progress
Wed Oct 28 2009

A few weeks ago, I was at Home Depot. I was there to buy plants. I ran across some Paperwhite bulbs and remembered a promise I had made to myself. I bought a bag of them and planted half of them outside and the other half are here...

I love them to bits already. Hub Man is not fond of their strong fragrance, so I will keep them in my computer room when they bloom.

They are beyond amazingly beautiful, even in their infancy.

I just finished a pair of socks for my mom. Here they are:

I think I may finally be getting some real confidence in knitting them. I no longer get quite so tense and crazed during the hard bits. I'm seriously thinking about knitting Hub Man a pair of boot socks next. Now that I have the formula, I don't really need a pattern. This could be dangerous. I could start stopping strangers and measuring their hand and taking their address and mailing them socks a few weeks later.

(Like THAT is ever going to happen. She's usually afraid of her own shadow in public.)

Hey, smartypants I have entered the hallowed halls of the menopausal. ANYTHING could happen....

I adore narcissus in general and the fragrance in particular so I might just have to move into your space with a blanky and a book for the blooming duration. Husbands can stay outside.

What hand measurement do you want?

I will enjoy the paperwhites at a distance. Lovely to look at, but I'm with the husbands about the scent.

Love those socks for your mom. Will Hub Man's socks be that colorful?

The bulbs are going to be lovely........ lucky you.

Anything COULD happen......but I'll only worry about you if I see itsy-bitsy hen socks showing up.

I envy you the paperwhites. I'd love to grow some, but I suspect Steroid Cat (aka LGS) would eat them, just like she's eating everything else that isn't bolted down these days. She even ate some fronds off my pony tail palm; made her sick as hell, but all she did was barf and then go back to grazing on it again!

Thanks for the gentian links. The ones you found are beautiful! The ones I stumbled across are more like something you'd find in a science fiction movie - they don't quite look native to Earth. I'm dying to go back to the preserve tomorrow and see if any more flowers have formed (I almost typed "opened", but since these don't open it doesn't quite seem appropriate). Curse this rain and mud anyhow.
