The other day I took Ben and Sunny out to the fields by the creek for a much needed run. We all of us had a fairly raging case of cabin fever, and we needed an airing out.
As I walked by a familiar tree that was right near the bank of the creek I was surprised to see that it had been damaged all around the base. At first I thought debris had scraped off the bark but on closer inspection that didn't seem possible. On our way back I also noticed that it looked like there was a debris pile blocking the creek and making all the water back up in an unusual way. Then I spotted something that made me suspicious.
Could it be?
We were on the wrong side of the creek to get a good look at what was going on, and rain was beginning to fall, so I put off the investigation till this last weekend.
Hub Man and I took the dogs out and came upon this sight:

It COULD just be a bunch of loose branches that the storms have washed up there.... maybe?
But this looks suspicious:

So does this:

What do you think Dad?
Now I'm on a mission. I want to catch this critter in action. I am going to have to spend some time down by the creek this year. We'll have to do our own version of 'Wild Kingdom' eh?
(Your capacity for making drama out of the ordinary is endless.)
Well I don't know about YOU ( ), but I have never seen a real beaver in the wild. I'm kinda jazzed by the possibility of seeing him in person.
(Whatever.)

Will he bite us?
Beavers have big teeth.
I don't know if I like beavers.

It sounds dangerous to me.
Better stay home and dust.
Have you seen that freezer lately?
It needs a thorough clearing out.
There are much better things
to spend your time on than
stalking wild animals don't you think?
Pansies. The lot of you.
