We went up to the morel patch again today and it was my goal to find one all on my own.
After about 10 minutes of searching, I did.
Woo Hoo!
It was a big one. That's probably why I managed it. The last trip, most of them were just peeking up out of the soil and duff.
G. spotted this next one, I got to harvest it.
And here's our haul for the morning… ready to cook.
It's good to see so many different ones to see the variations in their shape and color.
In the mushroom book it says that morels like to grow in areas favored by Calypso Orchids. I think the book was right, because there they were, right in the neighborhood...
We also gathered a few bracken fern fiddleheads and brought them home. After reading up about them being bad for you raw, I boiled up a little handful to taste. Eh, not too exciting. And evidently eating a lot of them isn't good for you. I think I'll pass on them from now on.
But it's still good to know.
(Are you going native? It's starting to worry me.)
You worry WAY too much.
Stay around, we're having morels for dinner...
(I think I have a previous engagement, thanks anyway.)
Suit yourself.
More Morels for me!
