We were fortunate enough to be right in the middle of the path of the annular eclipse this evening. An annular eclipse in case you didn't know… [I didn't] is when the moon doesn't completely block out the sun, but as it passes over, creates a ring.
S. and I watched it by using a pin hole in a bit of aluminum foil and keeping our backs to the sun, let the light shine through onto a piece of paper. You could see the progress of the shadow across the sun on the tiny image on the paper.
A few minutes before it was 'total', S. noticed the light from the sun filtering through the leaves of the trees in the back yard. As they shone on the house, you could see the almost complete ring. This is what we could not look at because we didn't have any special lenses to look through.
It was awesome!
We sat in the odd light created by the eclipse and marveled at the cooler temperatures and lovely glow. It was quite magical.
Did anyone else see it??
