If You Mess With The Needles, You Get The Horns
Wed Aug 01 2012

(I wish to publically disassociate myself from that title.) (That is all.) I've been prompted by a certain persistant reader to get myself together and post something. I always aim to please, so here I am.  :-) Where have I been? Oh, knitting like crazy. Trying to stay cool. the last farmer's market was a challenge in that department. It starts at four in the afternoon and ends at seven. That's a long three hours in the summer heat. Thank goodness I can hide in the shade of my neighbor's canopy, otherwise I would have to stay home. I made an interesting bargain this week. I am commissioned to make a purse for a customer who wants to trade her services at our local spa. If I manage to make the purse to her satisfaction, my feet are in for a real treat. I love barter, don't you? I had a request for another cell phone pouch, but this time with long AND short handles for versitility. She picked blue, and I added the gray. It turned out really well:     I find it so fascinating how each of us react to colors. What some might find insipid, or even repugnant, others find inspiring. I wonder why it is this way?  Perhaps if I pay attention long enough to what people choose and why, I'll start to understand it. In the meantime, I get to play with colors and study people. Nice job if you can get it.   The other evening, I saw a set of horns moving by my window. I got up to see where the buck was going and got my camera. I'll bet you have never seen a buck sleeping... I never had. This is how they do it:         Whoda thunk it? A four point buck in the front yard sleeping. [Around these parts, we only count the points of the horns on one side. I don't know why.] Ben got up on the window sill to stare at him. I told Ben to stay away from Mr. Buck because he could hurt him BAD. Ben SEEMED to be paying attention to what I was telling him. In the garden, the green beans are coming on. S. picked the first mess of them and they will be on the stove in a little while. I'm giving serious thought to making up a batch of blackberry jam sometime this week. There are more peas to pick. And the crookneck squash are almost ready to eat. Life is good.

I'm not so sure I would be that calm about a buck sleeping in my yard......especially this week. In fact I have hired a boy for night time guard duty until we are past the wedding! So far it seems to be working though they are ever so nearby watching and hoping he will retreat to the comfort of the house or fall asleep. Bambi is not easily persuaded to retreat to the forrest. Love the dual handle on the pouch.......my purse would benefit from such innovation.
