My main job in the garden right now is to keep the water flowing … freely and often.
Though I am hoping to be able to back off a bit on that, as we are expecting more reasonable temperatures in the coming week.
I caught a bumblebee busy at work on a Zinnia. I wish you could have seen him. He was going around and around quite quickly on those little inner petals… it's a wonder he didn't get dizzy...
The butternut squash must have suddenly noticed the date on the calendar and decided he needed to get busy. He's headed straight for the gate.
Here's one of the rows of Zinnias… they are so cheerful and bright!
And finally, here's what's going on with the tomatoes… I think these are the Goliaths.
That name does not refer to the size of the expected tomatoes, but to the stout and sturdy plants, which I am quite fond of.
I read a few weeks ago that Epsom salt is good for tomatoes. So I gave them some. About a tablespoon to a gallon of water. I think they rather liked this. We shall see how things go from here on out. I'm planning to give them another shot in a few days.
I've been eating crook neck squash and chard lately And have pulled a few onions too. Still waiting patiently [ha ! ] for the green beans however.
And finally, here's a rather moody and odd looking photo from early this morning. There was fog in the distance from a thunderstorm on the other side of the valley last night. We didn't get any rain from it at all.
The yellow flowers are Tarweed, and the blue ones, Chicory.
Tomorrow?
Wood stacking.
There's never a lack for things to do around here in high Summer.
