My fascination and love for linen fabric runs deep.
Lately I have become more than a little obsessed with the stuff.
I have a friend who if she was paid to do the job would be called a 'facilitator'. But since she does this stuff for free, can only be described as an 'enabler'.
The other day she sent me a link to a web site.
On the site was a page of linen aprons. They call them pinafores.
I call them crack cocaine.

Take a moment to browse through said pinafores.

I developed an intense desire for one of those garments.
(Did you notice the PRICE of those things???)
Yeah, there lies the rub.
But lucky for me... I recently found a linen dress at our second hand store.
It did not fit me.
But it had a boat load of lovely 100% linen fabric.
I searched the internet for a similar pattern to follow to try and make myself the coveted pinafore.
I came up empty handed. There were some that were close... but not close enough.
So after a few sleepless nights staring at the original, and mentally sewing it together four or five different ways, I began to cut up that dress and see what I could do with it.
Now in defense of the price that they put on that apron, including the cutting up and sewing of my pinafore, I probably spent a solid 2 1/2 hours of intense fingernail chewing effort. That's worth something right there...
I didn't have enough fabric to make the straps as wide as those in the original. And mine has buttons down the back, which I rather like. But it turned out very close to what I was hoping for.
So, you can give me eighty dollars, AND the pinafore, thank you very much.
I love it to bits.
I ended up using virtually every bit of the dress except the neck section.
And with what little scraps I had left, I made this little pouch. I filled it with dried lavender....
Excuse me, while I go gather eggs from the hens and put them in my linen pinafore pockets.

Feeling just a bit smug.
But mostly blessed.
Oh yeah, don't forget to give me my eighty dollars.
:-)
PS - Thank you to the people at Rough Linen for the inspiration. And C. for being a world class enabler.
Oh yes, and to God for creating flax. You outdid Yourself. Nice work. Truly.
