Sunshine!
Mon Dec 28 2015

The sun has come out today in earnest. After snowing lightly all night long, seems that this leg of the storm has moved on. Snow has been plopping off trees and bushes like crazy. After being pretty much house bound for all these days, I feel like going outside and airing my self out. I made a small foray around and about. The chickens have been in their coop almost the whole time since the snow first fell. This is not really good for them in general. So I decided to ferry them one by one to the shelter so they could have a nice dust bath. This helps keep parasites at bay. Even though they were not thrilled to be picked up, [ Little Miss is especially distressed by being handled] once in the dry shelter, they wasted no time getting down to the business at hand. DSCN6675 The dust began to fly. DSCN6676 I am so happy we took the extra effort to make this shelter for them. It performs a vital function in the winter. DSCN6681 This has been a particularly beautiful snowfall for us. So often when we do get snow, it melts in just a few days. But this storm was quite different. It's been cold and there have been waves of snowfall over several days. It's very beautiful. Though it's nice to know that the ground is still there, green and familiar... DSCN6684 The sun will be going down in about an hour. It's going to be cold tonight with no cloud cover. I better bring in another armload of wood.   lime-wild

I didn't recall you talking about building the dry shelter, but what a good idea! The area with pretty white snow is gorgeous! Still doing the Happy Dance for Elvin!

Happy, dusty chickens! Just how we like them. :) I still say you're the best chicken Mama I ever met.
